82F with a slight breeze out there this morning, same as yesterday. And it looks like it'll only hit 86F briefly today, before dropping again... just like yesterday. So, like I said last night, I'm just gonna take this one day at a time... and today doesn't look too bad.

As you can see, in the upper right there, last night I worked up a full set of little calendar card graphics, to put into the entries here... just for the hell of it.

I woke up this morning to the ring doorbell going off at 10:50, so I grabbed my robe and ran downstairs to sign for the rotary phone element.

It's not quite like the one I used to have. This one, according to the EBay Seller, is a Soviet design?

It's smaller than an American one would be, but hopefully it still works okay.

These leads on the back are where I need to solder my wires... and then solder a 1/4 inch microphone plug on the other end.

If it's like the old one, that should be all I need to do for it to work.

An instacart order was also delivered, just minutes after I signed for the package... I'd put it in last night because several things I had ordered on Sunday from Aldi were not in stock.

1:09PM

Okay, I just got the beer out of the car and put it in the fridge... and then took out the garbage, and put the bins on the curb.

So now we're all set!.. got gas yesterday. Got beer and groceries. Got the garbage out. And got that package I was worried about!

Just having that phone mike, and thinking about wiring it up, makes me want to be sure and record crickets tonight... because I wired up the first one back in 1994, around the same time I was having my definitive cosmic experiences with the crickets in the back yard.

That was late August and into September, just like now.

Back then I worked at the public library... now I work at an elementary school... so... a very similar vibe.

I need to record crickets this week, and also make time to actually wire up that mike, and change the strings on those guitars and tune them.

The sooner I get that hatch door done, the sooner I can actually sit down and experiment with interfacing the microphones and guitars to the computer and FL Studio.

Also, the sooner the hatch door's done, the sooner I can get Matt and his friend out here to install the breaker box.

And the sooner that's done... the sooner I can run new circuits and outlets to the studio.

And the sooner that's done... the sooner I can refloor and repaint it... with glow in the dark painted stars!

And the sooner THAT'S done... well, it'll probably be the dead of winter by that point. So I guess I'm getting ahead of my skis.

This is still just barely the start of the fall adventure.

But at least I am getting a decent start on things.

12:07AM

Well, it did actually get up to 90F for a few hours, and it did not cool down all that much. As I write, it's still 77F, and it's still very humid out there too.

I'm gonna take the S10 out back right now and set it up to record...

Okay, never mind!.. the bush crickets are too screechy, the dobermans are barking, and everybody's AC units are on full blast... all three things, due to the heat.

Well, at least I gave it a shot.

--<>--

Okay, so anyway, I did learn today that the school district is gonna keep the AC running, in the areas they have it, for the next three days, all day and night.

And that already made a big difference tonight.

The latest forecast has both Wednesday, and Thursday being 96F... which is bad, but it's not as bad as 99, and 102.

But I won't speculate any further, because as I've said... this week it's just one night at a time.

I ordered some little spade clips to use with the rotary phone mike, on those side leads.

And then I got to thinking about the firepit... and how I was maybe gonna go over the top edge with the refractory cement to make just a... mounded cap.

But that cement is pure white, so in the past I'd turned over the idea of maybe mixing in sand, or crushed glass or something, to spice it up.

And today I suddenly had this brilliant idea to mix in copper colored glitter!.. Wow!.. Wouldn't that be awesome?.. so I ordered it right away!

And it didn't hit me until a few minutes later that... there's no way in hell that glitter can withstand the heat of the fire!

So I did a little more research and figured out that I can mix in this stuff called, "diamond dust," which is made from titanium oxide powder.

It actually comes in a lot of different colors, and I haven't decided whether I want to go with silver, or maybe try bronze... because the bricks are brownish.

But from what I can tell, this stuff can hold up to the heat of the fire.

I just keep thinking how cool it could look, sparkling at night, when there's a fire going!

But I have no idea what it'll look like when it's mixed with the cement.

At any rate, that's another thing that's gotta wait until it cools down, to get done.

Kinda sucks being stuck in this purgatory where part time is over, but it's still hotter than hell out there.

I will be very happy when this nasty week is over.
