This morning, half awake in bed, I thought I'd forgotten to turn on the AC, so I got up to do it, and it was on full blast.
That's when I remembered... oh yeah!.. the heat dome starts today!
I went outside with Yvette, and the heat & humidity hit us like a wall.
Out in back, I was sweating just sitting still!
But then I pulled out my phone to see this...

90s by Tuesday and Wednesday, but goddam 102F on Thursday... the day the kids come back to school!
This is going to be an absolutely brutal week at work, with no AC... and it will be a miracle if I don't quit before it's over.
The only hope I have is that the lows all week are pretty cool... 60's and low 70s. And there's no Rosa.
So, if I can make it through the first couple hours of each day, until the building empties out, and if I go slow... I might make it to Friday.
I'm gonna leave for Home Depot soon.
But there likely will be no progress on the hatch door this week, due to the heat.
I can't paint it anyway, until it's fully dry, and it may not dry out, even with the fan on it... because of the humidity.
And I'll probably have to shut off that fan, because the power grid's gonna be at the tipping point all week.
However, this may be a good week to record crickets, because it'll be warmer at night, and they'll be more lively after midnight, when I get home.
Well, I got to Home Depot and went for the paint first... picked out a shade of blue called, Boat House, which is just a tad darker than, Perfect Sky.
Sadly, the Dynasty exterior paint is not on the market yet. So I went with Marquee, semi-gloss enamel, exterior paint... and the guy mixed the color for me.
$68.00 for one gallon!
After that, I did find the unistrut spring tabs I needed, and used a bolt I brought along, to make sure they were the right size and thread pitch.
No luck with the nuts, or S-hooks I wanted. But Home Depot has never had more than a token selection of fasteners like that.
I did find the PVC fittings I'll need to create two counterweights out of the 4" materials I have on hand.
And then I went to the tool section to grab two HUGE pairs of channel locks... $22.00 a piece.
I almost never need the huge channel locks, but... when I need them, I really need them.
After HD, I went across the lot to Wendy's, to use their bathroom, and grabbed a burger, which I ate in the car.
Then I stopped at Ace Hardware on the way back, and found the nuts and S-hooks I was looking for.
Didn't realize they were about to close, when I walked in, so I ended being the last customer, being checked out at exactly 5PM, with the lights being turned off, and every employee in the store wishing me a fond farewell.
One final stop at Fiesta Food Mart for smokes, and now I'm back in the AC.
It's nasty out there, and there is no way I'm gonna mow the rest of the lawn tonight.
But I did get the back last night, and that's the stuff that grows out of control if you let it go more than a week.
Now I gotta put together an InstaCart order.
Yvette and I went for our long walk at 7PM, when the sun was low, and it had cooled down to 80F.
The groceries were on the front stoop when we got back, so I put them away next.
I got back to reading and revising that history of the house that I've been working on for three years now, and time got away from me.
But I did shave and take my shower... do the laundry, and take out the garbage.
And I did bring in the stuff from the car that I bought today, and put it on the porch.
Not looking forward to working through a heat wave this week, but... I am ready to go, tonight.
