Bumps

I'm writing on my phone from Dad's room. The power is on right now, but we have had about seven power bumps in a row, over the past 40 minutes, with everything off for a good minute at time, before coming back.

My computers, AC units, central air, and WIFI are all off, to prevent them from frying out, or putting too much strain on the grid... and I have a flashlight within reach.

The last time it went down, I had time enough to get outside and see that the whole block, including the street lights are being affected... so, it's not just my own house.

2:11PM

Okay, I'm on the side porch now, in the rocker, listening to the rain.

As I said, the power is currently on, but this all started when it began to rain, so I don't trust that it'll stay on.

We've been having these bumps a lot lately, so it seems like we're due for a full on blackout at some point... and you never know when it'll be.

But I can't risk any more fried components, so... this is it for tonight/this morning..

On the porch, vibing with the rain.

It's not much of a storm either... just a light rain with no winds to speak of.

But it's still a function of the big swings we've been having, in heat and humidity lately... from hour to hour over the days and nights.

If others are like me, they've been keeping the AC on full blast 24/7 just in case.

So, if a little rain triggers some sump pumps to kick on... which it could right now, because we got so much the other day, and it hasn't had time to fully drain away...

Well, that could be spike enough to get the grid bumping.

It's a Friday night/Saturday morning so people are still up, however...

And again, if they're like me... a lot of them probably shut shit down.

I mean... seven bumps is a lot of arcing and jolting going on with the compressors and the poor computers.

Most people know, in a situation like that... that it's a fire hazard and an electronic fry hazard.

2:51PM

The rains picking up a bit.

This is not a passing shower... it's a long overnight soak!

Again... power is still fine... but probably because everybody's at their open windows, or on their porches, playing it safe.

I know what this is!..

It's a DRILL!

This is a blackout drill!

We are all doing what we WOULD do... if this were an actual blackout

I even have a candle going out here, and my phone's plugged into a power pack.

It's almost like our dad flipped the lights on and off to make us hyper-down for bed!

An amateur conspiracy theorist would say the government was behind it.

But, clearly, its an AI, right?

Only an AI, tasked with keeping the grid from going down, would put together that humans hyper-down if all the lights go on and off, enough times, over a relatively short period

So... also knowing the rain was a threat, it preemptively did that... and it worked!

Even if I'm wrong... CLEARLY, this is what we should be doing, right?

3:15PM

It's actually a bit chilly out here on the porch now... which is GOOD, when the AC is off.

I ran upstairs and opened a couple windows to vent it out.

Rain's still going and I'm content to rock here and vibe with it.

The pets are all inside, napping.

Prowly's in the living room.

Yvette's in the kitchen... but the door to the porch here is open.

And Snoop's on a chair across from me.

Last August was the last time I did an entry out here, on my phone.

And back then, I could only have doors open and the lights low because Dad was in the hospital.

Back then... I was only dog sitting down here, and the kittens were stuck upstairs alone.

I couldn't have imagined back then... the shitstorm we were all about to undergo!.. including poor Dad!

But here we are...

Me and my crew, chilling downstairs on a rainy night.

Oh!..

And it's my birthday, isn't it?

Wow!.. okay?
