Pit OK, Studio Enabled
Saturday, June 24th, 2023 02:19 pm90F out there. I'm writing from Dad's room, because the back room WIFI repeater is useless when it's this hot.
Last night I stayed out there burning wood until about 1AM. I talked to Colleen and Tim on a conference call and generally had a nice night... saw a few lightning bugs... spotted some possums with my flashlight... heard a bat.
Everything burned to fine ash overnight, but I have not yet tested the integrity of the firepit walls. I'll do that later, when it's not full blazing sun out there.

Instead, this afternoon, I finally managed to download and register my copy of FL Studio: Fruity Edition.

So... the money wasn't wasted, and I have the software on the new computer and unlocked.
Now I have to figure out how to use it!
So, I'm gonna look for tutorials or even a user manual, if one exists.

Just watched two quick videos from Image Line about FL Studio... one, specifically about Fruity Edition.
And... GOOD LORD!
This modern DAW software give anybody the power to do fucking ANYTHING, and make it sound legit as fuck!
This time last year I was ranting about how nobody can get any attention for their music, because every member of their potential audience ALSO has an album!.. and now I understand WHY!

Okay, back to reading and watching videos, there's gonna be quite a learning curve on this stuff... especially for an old fart like me, who's used to far more primitive shit!

Well, the firepit seems good!
I didn't find any sign of it cracking or weakening after this first fire.
I did find one other crack in the mortar by a top corner brick, and I'm assuming this was caused by me screwing around with the boards and clamps the other day. But even that brick is not loose.
So, I have to do some repairs to the top tier, thanks to what I tried with those boards, but otherwise it's good!
As for a cap... I dunno.
After working a real fire in there, with a big pitch fork to turn over hunks of wood and soforth... I'm thinking those basalt tiles might end up getting busted... because they're pretty fragile.
If I use them, it wouldn't be a good idea to have them overlap the interior, which means they'd need to be spaced out.
So... I'm gonna turn it all over in my head a while longer.

As for Fruity Edition, I'm to the point where I'm actually constructing a rhythm track.
I took a break to eat a pizza I ordered off Uber Eats, and I'm in the back room at the moment, but soon I'll get back to it.
But that's it for this entry.
