78F this morning, and sunny. The leaves that had been yellowing on Natalie over the weekend are back to green again. Overwatering was apparently the issue.
Did I mention the mulberries are ripe and falling off the trees?
In certain spots the ground is now a mess of mulberries and cottonwood fluff.
And by night, we have the first few lightning bugs.
So... a very Junely June!

According to Amazon, the wood rack is out for delivery. So hopefully I'll be setting that up today after work!
But they're giving themselves until 9PM to deliver it, which is never a good sign!
If it doesn't come, I'll seed the hill, and/or take a crack at that giant root in Victor's yard, I guess.

8:32PM
It was supposed to get up to 86F today, but instead, by the time I was driving home, it was down in the low 60'sF, and getting kinda windy!

I dunno if those Canada wildfires had anything to do with it, but the sun was pretty orange, behind the clouds that were moving in.
Either way, the temperature dropped down to 58F, with strong winds, by 8PM, when I came in for the night.

The wood rack did come, so I put it together out back...

It's... kinda cheepy, for the money I paid.
Only eight bolts holding it together at the bottom... that will no doubt rust out, over time. And the cover's kinda cheepy too!
I left the cover in the shed, because it'll act like a wind sail until there's actual wood in the rack.

This is how I rearranged the utility space to accomodate the wood rack.
After that was done, I seeded the hilltop, going down to the old shed site, and then seeded a few other spots in the yard.
I put topsoil over all of it... which got done with one wheel barrow load.
I still have over half the bag of seed left, so that's now in the shed.

I did manage to find a refurbished monitor on Ebay... $70.00 for a 24" screen.
That was a better deal than I could find anywhere else. And it will be here on Tuesday.
I then went to Amazon and picked out speakers, a keyboard & mouse, a microphone, and a midi keyboard controller.
The speakers were $60.00, but I did need them to be half decent and have a subwoofer.
At $40.00, the midi controller was the next most expensive item.
The mike was $30.00... but that included a stand.
And, for $18.00, I got a corded mouse & keyboard.

So, with the computer itself, and the software, which I'll purchase on the new computer, the total for this setup will be $618.00.
Today, that would buy me a 24 track digital recording unit... but I would still need to buy a drum machine, full blown studio keyboard, microphone, etc... and get them all to talk to each other.
And that unit would only have one purpose.
And when it broke down, because they always do... I'd have no way to further mix, play, or edit those songs.
So... $618.00 seems like a lot, but most of that was for a general purpose PC that will easily last 10 years, and have a million other uses.
The actual multitrack recording part of that will only have been $170.00... for way more than 24 tracks, plus a built in drum machine and synthesizer.

So it all boils down to the question of whether or not I really needed a new computer.
And, arguably... yes!
Two of my three are old and wonky, and the one newer one is an all-in-one which... can't be modified or expanded in any way.
It's monitor is part of the case, it doesn't have an internal hard drive, and... I'm not thrilled with it's cooling solution... which seems to be just some passive vents on the back.
If I am gonna hit a financial crunch, where I'm barely making the bills for several years, it would be wise to have one good, tower PC to rely on when the others start crapping out.
And then, of course... I'll also have the recording software to keep me busy!

Recall that a year ago right now... mid June of 2022, I was broke, and embraced field recording as my free hobby.
And I still intend to do it, but field recording requires the field to cooperate, which it did NOT at all last year!
No thunderstorms. No field crickets. And not even any distant speeders, because of the economy!
This year hasn't been much better for thunder... in fact we've completely run out of rain!
And it's probably gonna take a few more years to really get those field crickets back in the numbers we used to have them in this yard.
And it isn't helping that the guy two doors north decided to let the back third of his yard go completely wild.
I still don't understand what that's about.
But there's a code in this neighborhood and it's... nobody calls the city!
We all break the rules... letting our dogs and cats run free, and I had a giant brush pile in my own yard for years so... if he wants to let his grass grow to the sky... he gets to do that!
------------{=0=}------------
At any rate, a music recording hobby is one where the content doesn't rely on the season, the climate, the economy, and the overgrowth in neighboring yards.
And with that... this Thursday is done.
