Chilly Sunday
Sunday, June 11th, 2023 02:54 pmIn a drastic weather shift, it's only 57F and cloudy out there today, with strong breezes! NOAA is calling for rain, but I doubt we're gonna get much, if any.
I think I'm gonna take advantage of the cool weather and mow today.
Then after that, I'll reprogram the timers and... do whatever else can get done.
--<>--
More quick connects and grass seed come tomorrow.
There are still a lot of random spots out there that can use some soil and seed, so I think I'll use most of what I've bought.
The wood rack comes on Thursday.

6:52PM
Well, mowing was off the table, because I had used one of the mower batteries last week, for the chain saw, and forgot to put it back on the charger.
So I brought in the timers and carfully synched their clocks, and reprogrammed them.
Below is the official program:
Everything repeats 12 hours later, but the bubbler stays off.
--<>--
I swapped out the 30 and 50ft hoses for the birch and shed site sprinklers, and then hooked up the timers.
------------{=0=}------------
With that done, I opened the basement hatch and brought out the sawzall. Also had a pair of channel locks and a large, straight-slot screwdriver with me.
I removed two thin tree stumps that had grown into the fence, and then removed the entire damaged area of chainlink fabric... careful to pick up and dispose of all the little peices of fence wire that fell off while cutting.

This just looks so much better than that terrible hole through the fence!
I measured and six feet of chainlink will be plenty to do the repair.
But before I do that, I'm gonna ask Victor for permission to come into his yard and cut out that huge hunk of root sticking up out of his lawn.
--<>--
After that, I filled up the wheel barrow with topsoil and did a few more patches around the yard.

These ruts were caused by an old tree root that had rotted away.

And these were some low spots over by the fallen mulberry zone.
There were some other small holes I hit along the way.
Two wheel barrows of soil, in all.
And these, along with the holes I filled in the other neighbor's yard, will all get seeded with what's coming tomorrow.
------------{=0=}------------
When that was done, I made a quick run for beer. And when I got back, I went ahead and put down grass seed mat, finally, on the old shed site... now that it's getting watered.

I used up a whole roll (100sqft) here, so the few areas that didn't get covered will get seeded tomorrow.
------------{=0=}------------
8:38PM
I'm shaved and showered, and the laundry's ready to go... but it'll wait until after the sprinklers are done.
I'm gonne be out there between 9 & 10PM to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.
------------{=0=}------------
9:54PM
It's a good thing I went out to check the system at 9PM, because I had the water off out there!
But... everything went off at the correct times!.. and in ten minutes I'll be able to start the laundry.

Checked online and it'll be around $150.00 to repair the fence.
The replacement chainlink fabric is only $50.00, but I'll need two tools and some hardware.
The tools are... a ratcheting stretcher tool, and a bar with hooks, that attaches to that tool, and grabs the fence fabric.
So... I tie in the new fabric, which isn't difficult, and then stretch the whole thing taught before fastening it to the side post, with the hardware.
I think I'd rather get this done sooner, rather than later... i.e. before the firepit cap or the hatch door replacement.
------------{=0=}------------
By the end of this week, it's gonna start creeping back up to 90F, probably for the rest of the month.
Another reason why it was good to get all of this done this past week and weekend!
I should be cutting down trees pretty soon, and for a good while.
So... that's something I can take my time with in the heat.
The sweatiest part of it is just clipping off all the branches, after it's down.
But I don't imagine that feeding them into the chipper will be all that sweaty [knocks wood].
Okay!... tomorrow starts another part-time week of work!
