I took the night off last night. Mostly just talked to Colleen on the phone. Then I slept in today until about 1:30PM.

It's about 82F out there now, with full sun.

I have a second USB tape player coming today. They're only $35.00, and I figured it might be good to have a backup, as the original one is five years old, and the flimsy little drive belt could give out.

The new one's got a speaker on it though, so I can scan through a tape without earphones, which will make it less of a hassle.

It's actually thanks to those old tapes that I figured out what that patch, north of the back room, was all about. There was a silver birch tree there, that got cut down in 1997!

But that birch spot's gonna have to wait for irrigation.

I'm pretty sure that, with just the three zone timer, and that new sprinkler, I can get everything in the back yard, including the hill.

So I'm just gonna focus on that until everythings growing, and then I'll rearrange things to get the birch spot, and over by the side porch.

I'm also increasingly interested in repairing the chainlink fence.

If there's time, I may fiddle around with that today.

5:50PM

Okay, first thing I did was set up the new timer, with quick connects, batteries, and programming.

And then I realized I may still be able to add a zone for the birch site.

So, how that's working now is... a short length of hose from the bib goes to a two zone timer... splitting off into Zone 1, and Zone 2.

Zone 1 is a 30 foot hose to the birch site with a small area sprinkler head.

Zone 2 goes way out to the second timer in the back yard... which splits into Zones 2A, 2B, and 2C.

2A is the barbecue sprinkler. 2B is the tree bubbler. 2C is the new sprinkler for everything else.

Zone 1 goes from 8:30 - 8:50PM, for the birch site.

Zone 2 kicks open at 8:52, and stays open for 90 minutes.

2A goes from 9 - 9:20PM for the barbecue/firepit area.

2B goes from 9:25 - 9:30PM for Natalie.

2C goes from 9:35 - 9:55PM for all the rest.

Both Zone 1 & 2 open every 12 hours, but 2B... the bubbler, only opens in the PM.

After setting that up, I bagged up all the stuff I'd raked off the hill and the big mulberry stump... sawdust, leaves, sticks, etc.

I filled up four lawn bags and then put the rest into garbage bags that are in the normal garbage bin.

After that I seeded everything as thoroughly as possible, using up the bag I bought after work last night...

This was the rut where I left off earlier in the week.

This is the ruts and holes east of the fire pit.

This is the rut by the dog yard.

And this is the old birch site.

I took another break to cool off around 7PM, and then went back out to cover everything in a light layer of topsoil.

But I did also fill in the two holes in the neighbors yard that were caused by the fallen mulberry itself.

Then I took the dog for a walk.

And now I'm waiting on 8:30, to go out there and see if the new irrigation system will work properly!

10:03PM

Okay... proof of concept for the new irrigation system, but it needs some tweaks.

Everything went on and did what it was supposed to do... and I figured out the best location for the new sprinkler.

The birch zone doesn't need 20 minutes. It's fine with 10 or 12.

The newest zone 3C, with the new sprinkler can hit the old shed site, the entire hill, and all the stuff south of the firepit... but it cannot reach the rut by the dog yard.

However, from it's new location, that new sprinkler does not need much hose, but the birch sprinkler could use a few more feet, so I'll swap the two hoses.

And I also need a few more quick connects, which I've already ordered.

So... after the timing, and connection tweaks, everything should be great!

They are calling for light rain tomorrow and monday, but I'll probably be able to get grass seed mat down on the old shed site tomorrow, and then seed the top of the hill on Monday.

After that, it's just a waiting game for all the seed to germinate and start growing.

Then, down the line, I'll rearrange the system to get the dog yard and side porch area... which will include the tractor shed site.

This was a big step foreward today!
