Spring Break Begins
Monday, March 27th, 2023 11:35 am44F and sunny out there this morning. I was up and in the yard with my coffee before 11AM to meet the contractor.
He scribbled down a few notes and then said he'd text me a quote tomorrow.
Why it's so difficult to cough up a quote, with these guys, I dunno.
I looked on google for other landscapers and called two more, neither of whom answered. I left a message with one.

I also called Groot to get a dumpster. I was gonna have it delivered tomorrow, and picked up on Tuesday the 4th but... they want to put it in the driveway, which would block the tree guys from moving in their equipment.
So I scheduled the dumpster for Tuesday the 4th instead, and they'll pick it up on the 11th.
But it is paid for now.

So... it's gonna go down like...
Saturday the 1st & Sunday the 2nd: cut down & chip the juniper, and bust up the barbecue.
Monday the 3rd: Martin Mendez gets rid of the mulberry trees & the brush pile.
Tuesday the 4th: Dumpster arrives.
Friday the 7th: I have three days off to empty out and dismantle the old shed.
Tuesday the 11th: Dumpster is picked up.

Okay, it's just past noon. I called a few more landscapers... spoke with two. Neither has lined up an actual visit yet.
I'm starting to get the feeling this patio could take months to happen.
I'd like it by the end of July, in time for the crickets. But the family reunion's not until late October, so... I guess we'll see.

Speaking of the reunion, I was talking to Colleen last night and, after finding out that I was clearing all the crap out of the yard, she suggested we should just hold the reunion in the back yard.
Way back in the late 1990s, She & Justin had their wedding reception in the back yard, with a big tent, and catered food.
That was before the jungle gym was there.
And it went off well, with over thirty people, back then. So we're thinking of doing the same thing this year.
She and Sheila had been talking about booking a room at the round house, but this would be less expensive.
So, she's gonna fly it past Sheila.

12:10AM
I got a call back from Francisco, who works for one of the contractors I called today, and he said he'll be out here at noon tomorrow (Tuesday).
But then Amazon said the sledge hammer is, "running late," and, "may" be here tomorrow or Wendesday.
I hate when they do that, because sometimes it just disappears, but it takes five days for them to admit it!

I was shampooing classroom carpets today, just like I was at Grape last Christmas break.
So it was bringing back these memories of those tense two weeks, when Dad was back home, but bed ridden, and I had to leave him here alone for four hours a night.
I was shampooing carpets at Grape when Colleen called me and we decided we needed to get him to sign the Transfer On Death. But it still took me all week to figure out how to get it witnessed and notarized.
I was flipping the back room at the time, and it all came together that Saturday... where I finished the room, the notary came, and Tim showed up later that night.
It's a damn good thing all of that fell into place that Saturday, because Dad wasn't gonna be capable of signing his name, or being home unattended for even another week!

I didn't imagine back then, that by spring break I'd be talking to a guy named Francisco about a patio!
Speaking of which, when I got home tonight and took the dog out back, it was my first time seeing the back yard at night with the jungle gym gone.
Without it's long shadow stretching back to the fence, you can see a lot better back there.
And with the two garden lights on the back of the back room, I kinda don't need the Dr. Seuss light pointed back there anymore.
Visibility's only gonna get better when mother mulberry and the juniper, and the old shed are gone.
And I do have the cameras now, which have night vision. So... I think I'm gonna retire the gooseneck and just point that second floodlamp at the side yard or something.

One day down, and four to go, before a three-day weekend!
