Saturday 4, and Sunday 5, were my first weekend alone at the house. And today will be my first day back to full time work in over two years.

Saturday, I installed the third security camera, looking at the basement hatch door. And after that I painted the basement entry door which is under the hatch... which I'd been meaning to do since 2020.

Sunday I went out and bought groceries.

Collen said a housewarming gift was coming and it arrived... a turn table! We still have some vinyl in the house so I tested it out and it works great!

This morning me and the dog and cats all hung out in the back yard, as is our new routine, and then I came inside and paid the homeowner's insurance and all the utilities.

The car and the mortgage were paid on Friday, so all I have left is my credit cards. I'll pay them tonight or tomorrow, after the money for all the utilities has worked through the system.

I've discovered that Yvette likes cat food, and that prompted me to order her cans of dog food pate' and she LOVES it!

Finally, no more Good 'n' Fun Dog Kabobs!.. and the canned stuff is way cheeper!

An she's finally pooping out normal, solid, dog poops!

So, that's gonna help with the full time schedule. She'll have food in her bowl while I'm gone, and get more when I come home.

Meanwhile the cats are doing great! I barely have to clean the litter boxes any more, because they're both going outside most of the time.

I also found out from a neighbor that Prowly's made friends with her cats and even gone in her house to eat a couple times!

So... they definitely will have no trouble with me being gone 9 hours a night.

This is also the first Monday since last November that the garbage bin outside isn't crammed beyond capacity.

And Ted, my alderman and former schoolmate, who lives across the street, came by to give me some garbage stickers, because he saw how many I've been using.

I told him I own the house now, and he was very happy to hear that I'm not moving!

Like me, he owns the house he grew up in across the street... though he also owns the one next door to it now. He's a believer in this town and this neighborhood!

12:15AM

Okay, so I made myself a lunch before I left... sandwich, corn chips, and cottage cheese, and then I grabbed some smokes on my way to work.

Today was not just 8.5 hours, but a new area. In the first four hours I got all the garbage, both pairs of bathrooms, and vacuumed the upstairs part of my area.

Then, after a lunch break, between 7PM and 7:30 it was all just vacuuming.

The library is the big area I vacuum in the second half of the shift. But luckily, they don't let kids eat in there, or do little art projects, so the floors are pretty clean.

By 9:30PM, my feet were telling me, You are DONE!

Taking a break, I checked my step count... and it was 15,000 steps!

To give you an idea of how insane that is, Doctors suggest people try for ten thousand a day... and work up slowly toward that goal over time... because it's a lot!

So fifteen thousand was PLENTY for my old feet today!

It's a damn good thing I had six months to get them used to ten thousand a day, or I'd be dying this week.

In fact, I did search my old Amazon orders for when I bought the pair of Sketchers I have now... and it was July of 2019!

So, it's definitely time for a new pair, and a new pair of orthodics! I put them in my shopping cart, but I won't buy them until I take care of the credit cards for March.

So what did I do between 9:30 and 11:30PM? Not much! But that's what I suspected it would be like.

When you're four hours, and have only a single 15 minute break, they give you enough work to take up exactly four hours.

But when you're eight hours... the work can get done in six. And when you're second shift, theres nobody looking over your shoulder.

My new supervisor, Chantele already did her hovering over me last month, when I was still part time. Tonight, she asked Jeremy, the head custiodian, to stick around until 6:30PM just in case I had any questions.

They did bring over a new woman, Rosa, to cover the four-hour area I'd been doing last month.

Jeremy, Rosa, and I, are Geostaff's new team at Cloud Elementary.

Jeremy was the second shift guy for a few years before two older hands retired. Now he's the head custiodian, and they brought Rosa and I over from other schools, because they liked our work.

Rosa works 6:30PM to 10:30PM. So I'm only alone in the building for an hour after she leaves.

She and Jeremy are both young, which means they're both cool... and neither of them are walking around talking about Q-anon conspiracy theories like Helen, over at Grape used to do.

So... yeah! I think full time work at Cloud is gonna be okay!

When I got home tonight, Yvette didn't freak out much at all. We went for a quick walk, and she pooped outside. When we came back in, I gave her some canned food and she ate it.

Snoop was around in the house to greet me, but I had to go out into the dog yard and call once to get Prowly to show himself. He wanted to come in, but Snoop was trying to block him from getting to the cat door.

He got past Snoop, but then Snoop attacked him, and drove him out again!

A while later he did get inside. But... I'm not a big fan of this weird antagonism between them.

I need to provide that cat ladder, so that Prowly has a way to get to the upstairs cat door from outside. Snoop can't guard both entrances at once!

That's it for my first day back to full time work! Gonna be doing it five days a week until Spring Break... whenever that is!
