Wealthy Wednesday
Wednesday, February 8th, 2023 10:26 pmI waited until after the garbage and recycling trucks were done on our block, this morning, to take Yvette for her walk... because she doesn't like them very much.
It was a warm enough morning that I didn't have to wear any gloves out there, but she went to sit out in the back yard for the whole, "walk," as she's been doing lately.
Back inside, I went upstairs to deal with bills. A check of my bank account showed that the two-thousand dollar draft I'd deposited yesterday, had cleared.
I had already paid my car payment on Monday... which is what had left me with only $35.00 in the bank on Tuesday. And I'd used the credit cards to get through Tuesday, but... now I paid those two cards, first thing!
The balance on one card was over $500.00, and the other card was $400. Minimum payment for both was $25.00, but I paid the first card $300.00, and the other one, $210.00... so that the balances on both were cut, more than in half.
As always, I managed to pay them both a week early to boot!
I then went through my nephew Michael's spreadsheet and used his links to get to each of Dad's utilities and pay off the ones that hadn't been paid yet for February.
--<>--
My biggest concern was his AllState account, which handles both his car and homeowner's insurance.
I'd gotten a text from AllState back on Wednesday, saying that they were gonna pull down $320.00 from Dad's checking account on February 11th!
I had ASSUMED that was for the homeowner's insurance!
And it had been causing me GREAT grief, because I thought that if homeowner's insurance was goddam three hundred a month, I'd NEVER be able to afford to stay in this house with just my single income!
But this look at the AllState account online showed me that... no!.. it was the CAR insurance that was goddam three hundred a month!
Meanwhile, his homeowner's insurance is only $80.00 a month!
That, I can handle!
So I paid the homeowner's insurance early, and then called them to cancel the car insurance, because the car's been sold, and he's never getting another one.
And thankfully, they did cancel it, without any fuss!.. probably because when they looked up his car it was already in the system as having been sold.
So... THAT took care of the $320.00 that was gonna hit his checking account on the 11th!
WHEW!
------------{=0=}------------
So, basically, everything's up to date. The credit card balances were pruned way back (which is good for my credit score) and the homeowner's insurance is less than a third of what I feared it was!
And the remainder of the life insurance money should make it possible to get through March and April without having to use the credit cards again... and even pay them off!
By then, I will have been full time for a while, so... I should be able to get that personal loan for 30K, that I'd been pre-approved for, from my bank, months ago.
And then, with that, I've decided I'll not only pay off my car...
But also pay to get the goddam Mulberry tree that fell last September, completly removed, along with the brush pile of other nuisance trees I'd cut down in 2019 & 2020... AND get the one remaining Mulberry, removed as well!
Could be five to eight grand for all that tree and brush removal, but it will be WELL worth it, to get me a clean slate in the back yard, as the new owner of this property!
--<>--
With both Mulberry trees gone, along with the remains of all the other overgrowth I spent years cutting down... All I'll have to do is mow the lawn once a week, and keep things pruned!
Who knows?.. maybe I'll FINALLY get some good cricket recordings out there, this August!
------------{=0=}------------
Today was also my second day at Cloud Elementary, and, now that I knew where I was going, and had my stuff set up to go... I found I only did 8K steps, instead of 10K!
The building is only slightly smaller than Grape, but the hallways are narrow enough I can dry mop them in two passes, instead of three... which really cuts down on the steps!
Also, the student census is MUCH lower! Not nearly as many desks in the classrooms, and not nearly as much mess to vacuum up every day! That too, saves a lot of steps, and time!
And I've also decided that Cloud just feels warmer, and more homey!
Grape was kinda cold, and monochrome. Cloud's more colorful, and lived-in.

Tim spent his evening, while I was at work, setting up an Amazon seller account to handle all of Mom & Dad's books... of which there are a couple hundred.
He thinks we can get a nice little source of extra income, over the coming months, on selling those books, one at a time.
------------{=0=}------------
I've decided that tomorrow is my day to take care of getting my car emissions and registration renewal. I've got until the end of February, but... the later in the month you go for an emissions check, the longer the lines and the wait!
So, if I can knock that out tomorrow, it's another big worry out of the way for the year.
Then, the plan is to go back to City Hall on Friday morning to ask for some clarification on the form they gave us, describing the property transer... because that form presumes it's a sale of property from one living person to another.
It wants Dad's future address, and his signature, for example. And it says the form has to be submitted at least a week prior to the transfer of property... which is all ridiculous, when we're talking about a transfer upon death!
Like, "Ermmm... he'll be dying next week on January 17th, and his future address will be, Heaven."
Hopefully we can get it straightened out on Friday, because it will still take a week to get the goddam City Transfer Stamp... which is needed before the notice of death and acceptance affidavit can be recorded with the county!
BUT... having paid up his water bill today will help, because part of this transfer stamp process is about changing the name on the water bill.
------------{=0=}------------
Saturday will be taking my car to get an oil and trans fluid change.
It's an eleven year vehicle with nearly 100,000 miles on it, but... it's also a Toyota! And I've been told by multiple sources that, as long as the oil gets changed on time, and... the trans fluid gets changed at 100K miles, it'll make it to 200K no problem.

Tim finally bought his plane ticket tonight, for Monday, February 27th!
Yesterday, I'd said, Tuesday the 21st, but... we both figured that the extra week may be necessary to really get everything squared away, including getting the cat's fixed, and having Yvette... unleashed as it were.
I'm gonna tell GeoStaff that I can't go full time until Monday March 6th.
I'll take Tim to the train station on Monday 27 before I go to work, and then my first full week by myself here, will still be part time.
That'll give me a little time to actually relax, and reflect on everything, before returning to the old 3-11PM grind, for another fifteen years!

With it being just me and my two cats... it will echo the life I had lived, over on Illinois Avenue, for several years.
That was when both Mom and Dad were still alive, but I didn't have to worry about them yet!
