Four Spades Week Begins
Sunday, January 8th, 2023 04:40 pmTim did not sleep very well last night. The air mattress on the cold floor was just too cold. He managed to get a few winks after rolling up in the blanket like a burrito, but... by the time I got downstairs this morning, he'd already lined up a twin mattress on Facebook marketplace.
So after walking the dog and hanging for a bit with Dad, we emptied out the back of my RAV 4 and left for Saint Charles, where we picked up a twin mattress and box spring set from a lady for $50.00.
We didn't need the box springs, but it was both or nothing, so we lashed it to the roof rack with bungee cords and stuffed the mattress into the back.
We drove away with both our seats moved as far forward as they can go, and my knees were touching the dash board.

We stopped at a Lowe's on the way back, because he had a gift card, and with it we bought a nice little space heater with a built-in fan.
After that, a stop for beer and smokes... then another stop at Dunkin Donuts for breakfast sandwiches.
Back at home we ate, and then it was to work. He got the space heater going as I deflated the air mattress. Then we set up the mattress platform and got the box springs and mattress in from the car.
His new twin mattress still sits up absurdly high, because of the box springs, and I suspect we'll just abandon the box springs on garbage day, but for tonight he says he'll try it out.

I took the cover off the gas wall furnace to have another look at it and all I can figure is maybe it's the thermopile? Either that or the whole gas vavle needs to be rebuilt. I'm gonna do some research to see if I can fix it myself.
The space heater buys me time to do this, but it's also gonna eat into the electric bill if we have to use it for too long.

I had set four mousetraps last night, and today caught two more mice! So they're still a problem down there. I'm just gonna keep setting traps until we can figure out a strategy to have the cats downstairs overnight, which is when the mice are stirring.
It's worth noting again here that... we already had a twin mattress and box springs that the dog destroyed, and we would not have a mouse problem if it were not for the dog either! It's also likely that the gas heater problem is mouse related...
So, all roads lead to Rome... with Yvette being Rome, and the roads being paved with bullshit!

I'm currently upstairs hanging out with the cats.
Here's the combo of the four updated Aces I've completed since around Christmas.

2:25AM
I returned downstairs at 7:30, and walked Yvette while Tim ran for smokes, and then we all convened in Dad's room to drink smoke and chat. And Dad was more lively than ever... smoking a total of four cigs!
We even made him laugh enough to snort, at one point!
Tim kept him company while I took out garbage and straightened up the kitchen a bit, and after a while, we went into the back room to hang out, just the two of us brothers.
The little space heater really made a difference and it was getting almost hot in there, by the time my laundry was done in the laundry closet on the other side of the curtain.
I came up stairs, shaved and took a shower, and now am all ready for a new week!

Over the course of today, in my alone time, I actually completed Two of Spades!

This one was easy, given the date range! I'd been picturing something just like this for a few weeks now for two spades.
But, now that we're in the season of spades, and that was only a bit over a week ago, I think I'll just keep working on the suit of spades from here on out, and hopefully just keep going all year... producing cards in or near the actual weeks that they are.
