Garbage Night Finally!
Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 08:17 pmNothing has been more annoying, during this crisis with Dad, than the fact that garbage night, which is normally Tuesday night, has been bumped to Wednesday night, for two goddam weeks in a row, thanks to Christmas and New Year!
The amount of garbage that's been generated over the past two weeks here, has been astronomical!
But, on lighter note... somebody actually DID take the ugly black mirror table with the gold trim this morning, off the parking!
So tonight, as I write, we have the standard two garbage bins out there... cram packed to capacity... another mattress and box spring set... a comfy chair... and SEVEN bags of extra garbage!
I used all ten of the garbage stickers I bought on Monday, and there are still three bags of extra garbage in the dog yard, waiting for next TUESDAY night, goddammit!

It was another busy day today, that began with walking Yvette at 10AM. Kyangela showed up to bathe Dad, and a bit later, Sue the social worker came by, with Kim the chaplain.
In the back room, I vaccumed the whole floor, and then threw the curtains in the wash. I always thought they were grayish blue, but they came out light blue! All the gray was just dirt!
I hung them back up to dry, without putting them in the dryer.
I also pulled out the desk with the computer, and the WiFi equipment that sits on the floor next to it... disconnected everything, vacuumed & mopped the floor, cleaned the equipment and wires, and then reconnected everything so that the WiFi transmitter is up high on top of the washer/dryer stack unit in the laundry closet back there.
I think the WiFi signal is better now, both upstairs and downstairs, because it's not being blocked by a big metal stack unit.

That was all I could get done before I left for work at 1:20PM, but from work tonight, I smuggled out a spatula and some pads, that I can use to clean the walls back there.
I'd like to repaint them, but there isn't the time, and I don't have the money for a gallon of the good stuff right now. But the spatula and pads are designed to make cleaning walls easy, and I should be able to remove several layers of dust and smoke, evenly, without leaving any streaks.
The trim will get painted, so... cleaning the walls will help that extra bit to freshen up the old room.
After work, I took down the million and one wall hangings back there and put them on the kitchen table to be cleaned themselves, tomorrow. And then I removed all the random nails and screws they'd been hanging from.
I'm trying very hard to resist the urge to caulk all the little holes, and have to keep telling myself, this is just a quick wall cleaning, and when everything gets re-hung, most of the pin holes won't be visible.
And again... Tim was never expecting this level of effort anyway.

After the walls are cleaned, I'll do the masking tape around the window trim, and the base boards, and start painting them with the gray that I already have.
The inflatable mattress and blanket are here, but tomorrow a lot of the other stuff is delivered; sheet, pillow cases, curtain, area rug, and two power strips I just thought to order today.
The fan gets here Friday. And the mattress platform gets here either Friday, or Saturday.

So, tomorrow, a ton of the garbage from the back room and music room is being hauled away, while other trucks will be delivering the new shit that's gonna replace it!
And I'll still have three days to get the back room into shape!

The last thing I did tonight, upstairs, was print out a, "Transfer Upon Death Instrument," which Colleen had drawn up on rocket lawyer back in October.
It Says that Dad transfers the house and property to me, immediately upon his death, and it names the exact lot, in leagalease. If I happen to die before Dad, it goes to Colleen instead.
It needs to be signed in the presence of two witnesses, notarized, and filed with the county. And today the social worker said that if the church sends two guys to give Dad holy communion, they can serve as witnesses.
And the church is supposed to call me about weekly visits for Dad, so I'm gonna try to line that up ASAP!

The TUDI may not be the most iron clad solution, but it's something we can do right now, while Dad's still of sound mind, and able to sign something.
If there's time, we can consult a lawyer to do more, but I was talking to Colleen today, and we both agree that the TUDI needs to get signed and filed right away, because it won't hurt... and could stand up in court, by itself!
Kevin's a mortgage guy so, he may be able to help get my name on the deed before Dad passes as well, based on the fact that I've lived here over eight years.

It's pretty obvious to me, at this point, that Tim's visit is really going to be about being here with me, for the final weeks of Dad's life, and that he'll be here when Dad dies in his bedroom.
That's not what Tim was planning, or what I asked for, but... it's what's in the cards.
The omens, the timing, the parallels in family history... all the signs are pointing to the fact that this is the end of Dad's story.
I think we have January.
And I think he'll be gone before February is over.
