New Deck's Day

snoozefestaudioIt's December 18th!.. first day of Ace of Spade Week!.. and the playing card deck starts over tracking the, solstices, equinoxes, and seasons of another orbit around the sun!
The December solstice is guaranteed to happen during Ace of Spade week, no matter what decade or century it may be!
It's occured to me that some nomenclature needs to be worked out for this perpetual calendar. For example, this year, Ace of Spade Week happens to begin on a Sunday, which would make this a, "Sunday Year."
So, 2022 was a Saturday year... meaning that every Saturday, it was time to turn up the next card. And that remained true all the way through to last week, when King of Diamonds (DEC 10 - 16) would've been turned up on Saturday the 10th.
But Joker Day is always December 17th... which was a Saturday (yesterday) Making 2023 a Sunday year!
Christmas Day, the start of 2 Spades Week, will be on Sunday. New Year's Day, the start of 3 Spades Week, will be on Sunday. And on it will go, through the whole deck in 2023.

We will hit a snag, however, in 2024... which will be a Monday Year... but only up to Jack of Spade Week (FEB 26 - MAR 04).
Because Jack of Spades covers all days between February 26th and March 4th, in 2024, it will cover February 29th... making it an eight-day card!
This means that Queen of Spades Week (MAR 05 - MAR 11) will begin on a Tuesday! And the rest of 2024 will be a Tuesday Year.
That in turn will force 2025 to be a Wednesday Year!

In a non-leap Sunday Year like this one, it'll be pretty easy to know where we are in the card-based week... because the weekday names align with the date ranges for the cards... with Sunday always being the first day, and Saturday the last.
But non-leap Sunday Years are pretty rare! The last one was 2017, and before that, 2006. And the next one won't be until 2034!
So, since the cards are already numbered, and the weekdays don't always line up, we need to use the letters A through G to designate which day of the card week we're in.
So Today is 1 Spade A, tomorrow will be 1 Spade B, and so forth until Saturday, 1 Spade G.

We also need tidy 3-letter codes for the suits, so we don't have to spell them out all the time so... I figure...
Making today, SUN, 01 SPD A, 2023.
Yesterday would've been, SAT, JOKER 2022.
And the day before that would've been, FRI, 13 DMD G, 2022... because Jacks, Kings, and Queens would simply be 11, 12, and 13, in such a date code.

It might seem a bit bold and presumptuous to declare that it's already 2023, according to a calendar that clearly relies on the normal Gregorian calendar to function properly... what with the Gregorian date ranges stamped on the bottom of the cards.
But in theory, you would not need the Gregorian Calendar to figure out what day to start this deck, each year.
You could do it by noting the date of the December Solstice, by sighting the sun in the sky, for it's lowest arc... and call that day, 01 Spade D!
You would then check again on the March Equinox. If it occured any earlier than 01 Heart A, then you'd have to shift things back and call that day, 01 Heart A.
It would take a couple decades to fine tune exactly which day should be, 01 Spade A... or, New Deck's Day, but you'd get there. And you wouldn't be too far off the mark in the mean time.
You would, however... need to remember to have an extra leap day every fourth year!
And without the Gregorian calendar to go by... you'd simply have two Joker Days in a row, every fourth year.
Joker Day. And Extra Joker Day.

The Gregorian Date ranges stamped on my cards, eliminate the need for the Extra Joker... and indeed, to include one in my deck would be confusing, so I won't.
But I do still feel bold enough to declare that today is, SUN, 01 SPD A, 2023.
That may correspond to, SUN, DEC 18, 2022... but we all know 2022 is over soon.
I COULD call January 1st of every year, 01 SPD A, because right now, 03 SPD A, is perpetually January 1st!
But... if I did THAT... then the solstices and equinoxes would all fall in the QUEEN weeks!
And that's just messy!
Today is, 01 SPD A, 2023, because this is the week of Solstice! And a solstice is a logical moment to mark the start of a new year! Fight me!

As far as Dad goes, I caught him being wheeled to the PT gym (fully clothed) today when I got there, so I was able to sit in.
He told me he wasn't doing well and felt extremely weak. Then he completely failed to do anything for the physical therapist but stand once, using the parallel bars, for literally two seconds.
He's STARVING! We went back to his room and, yet again there was a food tray with three bowls of different colored gruel that he had not touched! Same as Friday. Same as Thursday.
And they won't let him drink water either... instead offering him, "thickened water," which he also turns down, so he's not only starving, but dehydrated.
And on top of that, the thermostat in his room was at 66F! And the heat was turned OFF!
I took photos of the untouched food and the thermostat, before turning his heat on for him.
I gave him another talk about how he's getting in his own way, and he has to eat the slop they're giving him, so he has the energy to start walking!
I told him I'd scream at the head nurse to put him back on solid food... which I WILL do, tomorrow, but I can't guarantee they'll do as I say!
So, that's the update today on the Dad crisis! I don't know how this plays out, or where this ends, but it's gonna be an uphill battle this week with me screaming and cursing every single day at the head nurse, the discharge coordinator, the goddam speech therapist who ordered this shit diet, and at Dad!
So... stay tuned for all the fun, kids! I just LOVE having to STILL write about this, every goddam day!

So, tomorrow I'm gonna get a start on Seven Clubs, which is Lugnasadh/Lamas, or the lost August 1st Holiday for the midpoint between the June solstice, and the September equinox.
And with any luck, in a week, my set of sevens will be complete!
But it IS gonna be a really shitstorm week, so we'll see.
