I rewatched the first episode of Wenesday last night and in the school is a photo of young Morticia as head of the fencing team, and the little plaque shows her maiden name, which is Frump!

So, that sinks the matralineal theory for the Addam's name. Thus if Wednesday is a blood descendant of Goody Addams, it has to be through her Dad's side. And... I think that also has to mean that, Addams was Goody's married name?

Looks like the screen writers screwed that up pretty bad... because they really made it seem like Wednesday inerited her vision ability from Morticia.

Like... Morticia says herself she has visions. The prinicpal, Morticia's classmate, corroborates this and says it nearly drove Morticia mad in her school years. Goody Addams reiterates to Wednesday that visions are indeed genetic, and that they can drive you mad...

Sooo... really sounds for all the world like Morticia Frump somehow was a direct decendant of Goody Addams... which is REALLY klunky!

Because, you know, Goody was like ten generations ago so... Yeah, Morticia and Gomez BOTH could be her blood descendants if... it was a royal family type situation... in other words... everybody marrying their cousins for hundreds of years!

But I really DON'T think the screen writers wanted to imply that Wednesday is the way she is because of in-breeding!

So... yeah... they screwed that up!

I mean... Wednesday being a direct blood descendant of Goody Addams was THE tentpole for the whole plot of season one!

I mean, it all starts with Rowan, the telekinetic guy trying to kill Wednesday because he's sure she's the girl in the drawing his mother (another visionary) drew, about a descendant of Goody Addams confronting a resurrected Crackstone.

Goody, who looks IDENTICAL to Wednesday, tells her in visions that she's her blood descendant.

Marylin Thornhill proves beyond doubt this is true by cutting Wednesday's hand, and using her blood to open the tomb and resurrect Crackstone.

Crackstone, upon seeing Wednesday, mastakes her for Goody... his arch nemesis, and stabs her immediately.

And Goody is only able to save Wednesday from dying... again, because they're blood relatives!

It was a HUGE plot point!

The fix would've been easy too! Just give Goody a different last name! But I'm sure the screen writers probably thought, It'll just sound better if Goody is an Addams!

But all they did is create a plot hole that's gonna be talked about for the thirty years!

Back in reality, I received an Illinois LINK card in the mail today... so I was approved for SNAP benefits!

But... it's only $48.00 per month.

I mean... it'll still help, because I can make $50.00 at Aldi last for two weeks. But I was lead to believe the minimum would be more like ninety bucks a month.

Still... that $48.00 will return every month on the 6th, like income, for the next year, and it also rolls over.

According to the rules, pretty much any food is fair game, as long as it's not;

  • Hot food ready to eat (like delivery pizza)
  • Food that can be heated in the store (like a 7-11 hot dog)
  • Food you can eat in the store (like any restaurant meal)
  • And Pet food.

Obviously alcohol, coffee, tobacco, etc are out! As is any non food item like toilet paper, or paper towels. But, on the other hand... ice cream, candy, frozen pizza, cookies, or anything else vaguely resembling food is fair game!

Not that I'm gonna blow it on cookies and ice cream but... I was kinda worried it was only gonna be like... raw meat and raw vegetables or something.

So... $48.00 is definitely two weeks worth of food, food, from Aldi for me.

My Aldi trips never included any alcohol, or pet food, and like I said, I've made $50.00 last two weeks... but that DID usually include paper products, so... yeah!

It's a win!

My eyes are now on the week of December 11th through 17th. That's the dead week with no income for this coming month... and there's always one such week, in every month.

The whole game is to tweak the spending in the other weeks, so that there's enough to coast through the dead week!

Breaking Yvette of her two bag a day kabob habit will certainly help a lot, and now SNAP will help a bit more.

I'm still wary of flipping that switch on Google, to change the handyman business from "temporarily closed," to, "open!" Because it could get my SNAP cancelled... if my case worker ever spotted it.

Some time needs to go by first.

And I'd rather not have to be taking any calls anyway, until I'm thorugh that 90-day probationary period with GeoStaff. I mean... so far I haven't missed a day and I've always been a few minutes early!

I'd like to keep it that way, at least until I'm FULLY on board, in a uniform, accruing PTO, and with live health benefits.

And that'll be December 15th.

--<>--

My December 20th check will include the first half of my sign on bonus... $250.00.

As of January 3rd, Dad's social security checks will be larger.

And I'll probably get a fairly large tax return in February, because I earned so little in 2022.

So... all these little cash bumps should help make the winter easier to survive.

Which is good, because I'd rather not restart the handyman business until late February, if I can avoid it!

------------{=0=}------------

The whole reason we're playing the game that we are, is because the economy is not strong enough to support the handyman business!

So, the best I could hope for is one or two calls a month... that could get me two to four hundred extra.

That would be nice... especially if I used it to keep my credit card balances near zero.

But calls take time, and I don't have much to spare in the winter because once the snow and cold come to town, I'll be spending it shoveling, salting, and walking Yvette, in those hours before work.

Dad can't walk her at all in the winter because, even if I shovel and salt, the neighbors never do, and he's a fall risk on anything other than dry pavement.

Yvette normally takes him up and down the block, or around in the back yard so... it's just not doable in the winter.

But she still needs to get out at least twice a day, so that's all on me.

The way it'll go is... I'll get up and take her for a walk in the snow... then shovel and salt so Dad can get from the house to the car and back safely, to run his errands.

Then I'll go to work. Then I'll walk Yvette when I get home. Then the cycle repeats the next morning, if there's more snow... which is unpredictable.

Might get a week with none. Might get an inch every day for a week!

I'd rather not introduce the added complexity of handyman calls... which will also be unpredictable... into that scenario.

Because that could lead to a situation where the call takes longer than I expected, but I can't bail, because I have the water shut off to the customer's house, and can't turn it back on until I figure out the damn problem!...

And that leads to being two hours late for work... which leads to getting home at 9:30PM, and suddenly it's snowing a foot, but I have to walk the dog still!... and then the cats are upset... and I oversleep the next day!... and I missed a spot with the salt... and Dad's frozen to death on the ground by the car in the driveway, because he's been out there for two hours and it was FIVE BELOW!...

--<>--

People always get on my case about these imagined scenarios, but... Hey!..

The distraction of that stupid fallen Mulberry tree lead to a situation where I didn't catch Dad overspending on Good 'n Fun kabobs until he was blowing $670.00 a month on them!

Shit goes to hell around here QUICK, when I don't have the time to stay focused!

--<>--

So I AM kinda hoping that we can skate by through December, January, and the first half of Feburary... just with the budget tweaks, the SNAP, and the little cash bumps we're gonna be getting.

And then, as Feburary turns to March... when Dad can walk his dog again, and I'm off snow duty... when I've got five months at Grape Elementary under my belt, and my SNAP case worker's forgotten I exist...

I'll have the leeway to grab a couple unpredictable calls a month, and deal with the consequences if they run longer than expected.

------------{=0=}------------

So... that's my evolving game plan, now that the SNAP puzzle piece is in place, and December's about to begin!
