Silence Test Results

The S8 sat in between two key chimes and neither one made a single ding the whole hour.
You could hear some passing cars from time to time, but in the spans where there was nothing in the wave form, it really was... silent. Just a very slight white noise, or hiss.
But it struck me that this could be a very useful track, because it can be used to grab profiles for noise elimination on future tracks.
So, if I have a good recording of crickets next August, I may be able to use this silence track to sample profiles of base level hiss, passing car tires, and the rumble of a distant train... and subtract those frequencies.
In theory, this would make the cricket recording cleaner.
This is making me think I should capture profiles of... the air conditioner fans, and also the idling deisel engine sounds that typically mar mid-week recordings when they're doing inspections of the metra trains at the train yard downtown.
