The rule of thumb, for the midterm election of a President's first term, in the US, is that the party who is not in the White House, will seize control of both houses of Congress.
That's how it almost always went, through the whole 20th Century, and... you know, clearly, the 21st Century is exactly the same as the 20th Century in every way!
So... what possible reason would there be, for the 2022 midterms to DEFY a rule of thumb?
Yet, shockingly, the Republican party failed to retake Congress... OR to gain much of any ground in state houses and state legislatures!

The explanation?... more Democrat cheating!
A bunch of 18 to 35 year old Democrats VOTED!.. even though the rules of thumb, CLEARLY STATE, that this young demographic has only an HONORIFIC eligibility to vote!
Only NINE PERCENT of them are allowed to vote each year, and ONLY in general elections!
Midterms are for SENIORS ONLY! That's how it's ALWAYS been done!
Legions of senior Boomers, who waited their whole lifetimes to get old enough to vote with impunity in midterm elections... as is their birthright... had their ENTIRE Republican wave, CANCELLED OUT!.. by this year's underhanded YOUTH VOTE!

Because they abused their honorific rights in such an EGREGIOUS manor, Republicans are now calling for them to be stripped of them!
Nobody under... they wanna say 36... but they'll settle for 21... should be allowed to vote, EVER AGAIN!
Unfortunately, the paperwork that sets the current voting age at 18 is... something known as an Amendment?... to... something known as the Constituion?...
Whatever it is, it's like... CRAZY hard to undo!.. like, you need... 38 of the 50 states to agree, before it can be fixed! GUH!

And they were ALL broken last Tuesday!

Yes!.. SURE!.. in HINDSIGHT... maybe it wasn't the best idea to overturn Roe V Wade IN a midterm year... BEFORE the election! Okay? They get that!
MAYBE... it wasn't the best idea to follow that up by SPELLING OUT the ENTIRE plan to outlaw; privacy, homosexuality, contraception, gender nonconformity, porn, and non-Christianity...
...With snide, moustache-twirling, overconfidence, like nothing could be done to stop them now, but...
INFLATION!
Inflation was supposed to dispirit malnourished voters to the point of apathy!
It was supposed to drive those who did have strength to get to the polls to strike out blindly at the party in power!
What went wr... well, I guess, you know, the Republicans didn't actually mention any plan of their own to combat inflation... Hrmmmm... DAMMIT!

It is SO HARD to take over the US and turn it into a fascist theocracy, you guys! GUH!
In the 100 year plan to supplant democracy... pretending to have solutions to economic problems was like... three decades ago!
They were supposed to be way past that, this year... after FINALLY hijacking the Supreme Court!
This was supposed to be the END GAME!
It's almost like 100 year plans to destroy Democracy are... too long?
It's so hard to plan for what everything's gonna be like in 100 years, when you aren't actually in dictatorial control of world events!
But the gears of government move so slow!.. it's like... how can you overthrow Democracy in LESS than 100 years?
It's like, damned if you do... damned if you don't!
GUH!
Ya know?... like... you think maybe you can just start a civil war... but the military is way too powerful, and they actually LIKE democracy?

It's not even supposed to still work, at this point!
It's ridiculous that the GOP has to WASTE billions of dollars on campaigns and candidates... and millions of collective man hours on gerrymandering, voter suppression, lobbying, and propoganda... to manupulate a system that's not supposed to even work!
The propoganda says so!... Voting doesn't matt.. oh!

Well, at any rate, the Republican Party's been face-palming and shaking their heads in frustration this week, because it's back to the ol' drawing board!
Who the hell would'a thought that some stupid piece of paper, written up in the days before electricity... BY rich white men!.. would be THIS DIFFICULT to dispense with... a full two-hundred and forty six years LATER?
It's almost like they designed it, DELIBERATELY, to thwart the ambitions of oligarchs looking to establish a feudal theocracy!
But how could they possibly KNOW the distant future like that?
And how could they possibly have been smart enough to do this, even if they DID know?

No!.. This HAS to be some kind of... problem with immigration and... recent culture... like avacado toast? That's more likely!
The best bet is just... stick to conservative ideals until they finally click... and keep doing what hasn't ever worked... until it magically does... because GOD!

For the rest of us, it was a nicer week than we anticipated... even though, around here, it dropped down to the 30s and we had our first dusting of snow this morning.
It was a very, "only in November," scene, in my town, with some trees still holding on to colored leaves, but snow on the ground... and in some places... fallen leaves on TOP of the snow.

In other news, Snoop & Prowly encountered their first two actual live mice downstairs in the kitchen tonight!
We didn't know we had mice, but we do... and Snoop caught one immediately in his mouth and ran off with it, while the other escaped through a mousehole under the base cabinet.
No news on what Snoop did with his mouse. He either let it get away, or swallowed it whole.
I personally hope the mouse population is high enough to keep the cats busy this winter... to keep them from getting cabin fever, before they can become outdoor cats next spring.
