Grooving Into Fall
Tuesday, September 27th, 2022 10:21 pmThe track I edited and uploaded on Saturday night is entitled, Mulberry, in honor of the fallen mulberry, which WAS the crooked tree that got depicted on several Snoozefest thumb graphics in the past.
The calmness of the track, with it's haunting distant mole crickets, and total lack of speeders, does give it the feel of a kind of memorial service for the 66 year old tree, about a week after it fell.
But before you get too sad, it's worth remembering that the root systems are the brains of trees, so, in that sense, it's still very much alive.
And I have no doubt that this root system will give rise to a new mulberry sapling next year.

I still have another three hour recording to carve out an hour from, that was recorded earlier in September. And that'll probably be uploaded this coming Saturday night.
But at the moment, it's been down to the 40sF outside at night, so they're barely stirring out there.
I'm betting there will still be a few more warm nights between now and the end of October, however. There always are. So I may be able to get a few more tracks out of this season.
------------{=0=}------------
Today was my first payday, but it was only half a paycheck... one week's pay.
I won't see the first half of that $500.00 sign on bonus until after 90 days. Then I don't see the second half until after six months.
Still, I've done all the math, with my own bills, and Dad's bills, and we can make it okay to my first full paycheck... after which point things should get easier.

He got his final visit from his home care nurse today, who told him they're done... he's back to full health, and she wished him good luck.
He's back to walking the dog, and driving to church, the post office, and the grocery store.
The best thing we got out of the whole deal was an organizer for his medications, that the nurse gave us a few weeks ago.
Now, every Saturday night, I fill up the boxes for the next week... morning, noon, evening, and night... Sunday through Saturday.
Dad remebers to take the right ones at the right times every day, and I sleep better knowing he's not missing any of them...
Because we suspect that the whole episode he had in the hospital last month was due to him running out of one critical prescription and not realizing it for a couple months!
That won't happen again, now that we've got the organizer, and I'm filling it and checking it daily.

I purchased my 20" chainsaw bar & chain tonight on Amazon. Only $42.00. It should be here on Monday.
I've also scoped out some fat-ass pulleys, and poly-rope, which I'll buy from the next paycheck.
It's gonna be a pretty kooky setup. The rope's gonna be anchored to an ash on the north line... then go over to the mulberry, where it goes through a pulley and then back over to a second ash on the north line, and through a second pulley... then back to the mulberry again, through a third pulley... and then over to a third tree on the north line, where it will go through the last pulley... and then it will connect to the back of my car, if necessary.
So... the ropes gonna zig-zag across the entire yard four times, through four pulleys... which should reduce the force needed to rotate the vertical limb of the fallen mulberry to 1/4 of what it would be without the rigging.
Then, I use the 20" chainsaw to cut through the trunk on either side of the vertical limb, and... in theory I should be able to rotate it down to the ground on our side of the property line.
It's a crazy plan!.. but there WILL be drawings to post here beforehand... and I WILL record it in real time. And I do think it will work.
But that's still a few weeks away.

For now, I'm still just getting in the swing of the job. I'm taking on additional tasks this second week. Certain things we do every day, but we are expected to give, what they call, the 100% treatment, to three rooms a day.
That's dusting, and surface wiping, and other more detailed cleaning... or, on Fridays, I have to buff a whole hallway with a machine.
What it means is that there really isn't much time to stop moving, in four hours. I can steal a few breathers, but it really is, go go go, for the whole four hours.
And that's fine with me!.. It's like a good, passive work out, every day... walking, moving my arms, crouching down to pick up pencils from under desks... full range of motion!
I suspect that I will end up losing weight after a few months of this, and my old man body will probably be a little stronger and last a little longer down the line.

My home routines are taking shape too.
I get up about two hours before I have to go, so I can drink my coffee and chill out with the kittens for a while.
Then I go do my four hour workout... then run a few errands on the way home.
Once home, the kittens and I go downstairs to hang out with Dad and Yvette for 30 or 40 minutes... and then it's upstairs for moist food!
After I relax for a couple hours, I clean their litter boxes at 10:30PM.
After that, the night is mine, but every other day, I do have to get a flashlight and a coat hanger, and retrieve all the lost cat toys from under the dresser, so that the kittens can continue to play, as I sit at my computer doing my own stuff.
And most nights, I get to bed about 3:30AM.
Not a bad life, at all!
