I'm editing new audio for the playlist tonight, as I write this. Gotta start multitasking, now that I'm a working guy, and my weekends are so fleeting!

I'm working with one hour of a three hour take out front on September 12th.

I'm just at the part where I come outside to get the S8... but then hear how cool it sounds out there... and decide to leave it record for a third hour!.. and this segment, which is just over a minute, is a perfect DIAL!

I'm turning it into a FLAC and uploading it right now...

--<>--

You hear me come out the front door to get the S8 on it's tripod in the front yard. I walk up... and then it's quiet, because I'm listening to the soundscape...

And after a while you hear me turn around, and go back inside... leaving the S8 to record for a third hour!

That third hour, is the hour I'm editing tonight, so I'm GLAD I left it recording!.. it's kind of a haunting track, with lots of mole crickets in the distance. And in the foreground are a couple of juvenile field crickets, trading chirps with each other, and it's ever so slightly raining.

It's sounding pretty good so far... in headphones, at least.

Haven't thought up a title for it yet.

I slept in a bit too late today, not taking my first sip of coffee until 2:30PM!

Around 4PM, I decided I should go walk the dog downstairs. I hadn't walked her all week!

But as I went down the stairs, Snoop & Prowly follwed straight down to the door to the living room. I didn't want to let them downstairs, so I went out the adjacent front door, closing it behind me.

I went to the kitchen door, on the side porch, but it was locked?

I turned around to see out a porch window that Dad's car was gone!.. He'd left for 4:30 Mass... half an hour early... like he always does on Saturday.

No problem!.. I'll just...

I FORGOT MY KEYS UPSTAIRS!

AND THE FRONT DOOR AUTOMATICALLY LOCKED BEHIND ME!

I wasn't just locked out of the house, but my car, the shed, the basement... and all the other doors to the house which I'd personally repaired to be sturdy, and lock securely!

No hidden spare keys inside a fake rock... because I'd brought the fake rock upstairs a couple years ago... not sure it was really hidden well enough!

Dad would not be back for ninety minutes!.. a criminal waste of time on a precious Saturday, after I'd slept in too late already!

I contemplated possible ways to break in.

But then I thought, The damn church is only three blocks away!

I looked at my watch... only 4:05!

Mass wouldn't even start for another twenty five minutes!

I walked my ass to the church, and stepped inside.

Memories flooded back to having been an altar boy here, in grade school, and coming in this door to enter the sacristy and put on my cassock & surplus, before grabbing the candle lighting pole!

That was a cool job, to light the candles around the altar, as a fifth grader! Father Jackson had to light the wick of the thing for you, with his lighter, so you could go out and get the candles going.

But this was 2022, so I walked into the mostly empty, vaulting, glorious old church with the huge stained glass windows... found Dad by himself at the end of the front central pew, and whispered to him that I'd locked myself out!

He was a little startled, yet smiling, to see me!.. so I think it may have flashed across his mind, that I decided I wanted to go to church today!.. but he did give me his side door key and we laughed it off a bit, and I left the church in my slip on loafers to walk back home

After I got inside, I ran upstairs to get my keys... then went back down to walk Yvette.

When that was done, I made a quick run for beer, and then, back home with a beer, brought all my tools out to the table by the fallen mulberry and started in on it for a while.

It was supposed to be cooler!.. It had been in the low 60sF on Thursday and Friday. But today it was 72F with high humidity and no breeze... which is plenty enough to make an old fart like me sweat!

Rather than breaking down a huge pile of second order branches from last week, I used the chain saw to hack off the last remaining limbs that were crowding around the area of the neighbor's shed, and the hackberry sapling that protected it from damage.

After hacking them off, I broke them down and threw all the second order limbs onto the pile from last week... to deal with next week.

I also managed to finally cut all the way through the base of the trunk, where it was still connected to one, fat, underground root. That had been keeping it alive these past couple weeks, as it's been on the ground.

I hope it wasn't in any agony, but... those leaves were still good and green today!.. before I finally severed that connection.

So... it's out of it's misery, I guess... and so is the Hackberry sapling, which can finally breathe free again. It sacrificed a few limbs to hold that behemoth back from the neighbor's shed!

12:30PM Still listening through my hour from the 12th as I write.

Not many passing cars. It was a very calm night. I kept a few of the cars, and tamped down their volume a bit... I've edited out a few others. I just heard a super quick rain shower, 34 seconds long!

Here ya go!..

So, anyway, I finished up with the tree around 6:30PM. I made a TikTok about it, but it refused to upload.

After the cats and I visited downstairs with Dad and Yvette for a while, we took it upstiars, for some moist food, and I spent a while trying to decide what I should do with myself.

Obviously, I decided to edit audio.

I like this track, and it's a really gorgeous example of a few juvenile field crickets in the foreground... along with some other casual players.

I worry that all the Tordon from 2021, may have shortened the lifespans of this year's adult field crickets. Because they've just been very few and far between out there.

Either that, or I'm wrong about these being juveniles, and they are just a smaller species of field crickets... in which case, maybe they're taking over, and replacing the bigger ones I grew up with?

The first scenario would just be my fault, and contained to my block.

The second scenario would be like, climate change, and invasive species or something... way beyond my control.

------------{=0=}------------

I had a bit of a panic today about my life getting out of control... because I felt this pressure to get so much done on this precious weekend day.

But then I realized that... I mean, I do have all the things under control.

I have the job. I've worked it a week. The cats have food and litter. Dad's back to 100%, and his homecare rehab visits are done.

The Mulberry is coming apart.

And I'm editing a track tonight... popping out dials for Phonobook...

While finally smoking a bit of weed.

I haven't smoked any since last winter! But a few months ago I bought a little glass bong at the corner store, because my pipe was too harsh.

I finally used that bong tonight and... BAM!.. I remember why I liked my little bong back in the 1990s! You just get such a better, full hit, with none of the coughing fits!

Guy my age has enough coughing fits as it is!

Half of them from me choking on my own spit!

What was that the old ladies used to say to me, when I was young?

"Being old isn't for the faint of heart!"

Hahahah!

1:31AM - Okay, I'm to the hour mark on this track, even after editing, and it's all good! I think I'm gonna let it run to the full, hour and four!

I don't have a name for it, and it's gonna take overnight to upload so, I'll embed it in tomorrow's entry.

Hope your Saturday night went well.
