68F at the end of the evening, going up to 85F tomorrow, which isn't bad!
On Friday, I managed to finish the composite vocals for, Never Rains which were just great until that ending where I had to hit the high F#.
Technically, I did hit the note, several times in the stack recordings, but they just didn't blend into the rest of the vocals very well.
You can tell I'm struggling, and that means it's garbage!
So I WILL have to re-record at least the ending of, Never Rains later in the summer.
But that was only my second session... a session that had been cancelled on the first try by technical issues with the old, PYLE of shit interface box.
So, it was a little cursed, and that song itself has always been a bit cursed, because it's been on the roster for almost every recording project I've done since 1994, but has always fallen through the cracks!
So, it was a dissapointment, but... I'm more resolved than ever to nail this goddam song!
But then over SATURDAY 5, I comped out, Magic Monday and that one turned out to be perfectly gorgeous!
There were challenging bits at the end of that song as well, but I'd managed to nail them in one take or the other, and the composite result was perfect!
Today, SUNDAY 6, after running my errands, I sat down to comp, Tuesday Siren, which took me until late tonight... breaking off to shower and do the laundry.
But again, I'm happy to report, the result is gorgeous!
Ditching the notepad was the right call!
Over a three-day weekend, I comped three songs!
But that really is the top speed of the process... one song per free-day!
Now that I've broken myself into the discipline of it, and gotten some rewards out of it, I'll be motivated to keep it up through the summer!
And here at the end of July 6th, the summer's only just begun!
I've got three full work-weeks to sweat through, now!
And the fourth week... still July... will still be a four-day week!
Two days of PTO on THU JUL 31 & FRI AUG 01 will give me a four-day weekend in the middle of the long, hot, slog.
But then it'll be FOUR more FULL work weeks through August, before the respite of the Labor Day weekend!
So, July and August both are gonna be very, nose to the grindstone!.. at work, in Studio C, and at home doing the vocal composites!
This really will, in hindsight, have been the summer of vocals!
But, tonight I did lock down Studio C for next Saturday, 3-5PM, to do vocals for, Other Friends, which will be one of the most challenging yet!
Written at the age of 19, still in Publik Nuisance, with Tim & Brian, this punk anthem is gonna have me truly writhing to channel the ghost of my teenage self!
But if I can make it through, Other Friends, I'll be fine for the rest of the journey!
Re-records, harmonies, and all!
I did take some time to make another grilled cheese with tomato soup yesterday.
I feel like that practice, along with walking to Studio C, and comping vocals at home, are all very good ways to combat the flashbacks to last July!
And today I did employ that reusable shopping bag to bring the groceries back from the parking garage... while pulling a luggage dolly with my beer, and with the other half of the groceries in my backpack!
It's a different year, and I'm established here!.. making progress on my goals!
Let's just hope July and August fly by fast!
I want to be sitting here in September, writing about how all the vocals are done, and it's time to worry about mixing and mastering!
