74F and partly cloudy today, going up to 77F.

King of hearts week began on Wednesday, final week of spring.

I'll be getting ready to leave for Studio C here, in a little bit.

Today's song to tackle; Closer To You, the one that started the whole project, when accidentally rediscovered in June of 23, on an old journal tape from 1995.

NEWS OF THE WEEK

Okay, so, I bought a cooling pad for the vocal laptop this week, which was used for the first time today. It's a measure to prevent the machine from overheating in Studio C on hotter days this summer.

In the mail, I also got a copy of Audio Fidelity Sound Effects Volume 1... a vinyl from 1960, which I digitized successfully. And VOL 2 has been ordered from Ebay.

Audio Fidelity is a defunct corporation that dates back to the late 1950s and the advent of sterophonic recording!

Their sound effects library is vast, and, for the moment at least, legally orphaned, though two small reissuers are fighting in court over the rights to the material.

The idea is to incorporate some of these sounds, in altered form, when needed... hopefully without getting any copyright flags.

ZUNBUG

The bigger news is that I secured rights to the domain name, Zunbug, this week, for .com, .net, and .org.

That's gonna be my own new record label, replacing both Twincat, and Snoozefest Audio, to cover both the field recordings, and the music.

Twincat, if you'll recall was the label of the older 8-track digital albums, recorded in the early 2000s, when I had two cats; Jet & Mauli.

Back in 2023, I planned to keep Twincat as the label, because I had two new cats; Snoop & Prowly... but sadly that is no longer the case!

Snoozefest was an idea dating back to 2018, which turned into Snoozefest Audio, because the domain of Snoozefest was not available (snatched up by a matress company).

The current Snoozefest Audio branding of both this journal, and my TikTok were meant to support the Snoozefest Audio SoundCloud, back in 2022, when I thought field recording was going to be my main hobby... before I'd decided to get back into music.

Back then, when dad was still alive, and it seemed like he'd make it beyond 90, recording music wasn't feasible, but field recording was eminently feasible, because of the house and the yard.

But as of the foreclosure crisis, that subscription fee for unlimited uploads to SoundCloud for field recordings became impractical, so now, Snoozefest Audio is dead!

ZUNBUG will replace both, in this new era when I no longer have a house, a yard, or cats!.. and when my main focus is on recording albums that incorporate those field recorded sounds.

Plans are in the works to create a website that will host all the audio, though the albums will also be on SoundCloud, BandCamp, and distributed to the streaming platforms via DistroKid.

I wanted the domain of, "Junebug," of course, but found that some squatter had claimed every possible iteration of it, from; junebug, to junbug, to gunebug, goonbug, gunbug, and even, xunebug, xunbug, and xoonbug!

But the motherfucker forgot to lock down, ZUNBUG!

It was entirely unclaimed, a pristine domain name, never before captured, in the 30 years of the internet!

NameCheap didn't wanna give it to me either!

First, they rejected my debit card, for no reason.

Then, when I managed to secure the $38.00 payment (for .com, .net, & .org for one year) with the Discover card, they locked my account!

They sent an email asking me to verify the purchase by sending them the star-code associated with the transaction!

I did that, and finally they relented and let me have the damn domains!

Only then was I able to go in and flip the, "auto-renew," switch, to hang on to them, year after year!

I spent a few hours today working on a prototype logo for Zunbug, but there's a lot of work ahead on that front!

Still, DeepSeek confirms that it is possible, with HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript to create an open source media player for the website.

It's given me options for cheep web hosting, with a strategy for that site to pull the image files from a different, low-cost host, and the audio files from a free archive online.

It's all doable, but at the moment my hands are full just trying to get all the vocals recorded for this first of an album trilogy!

Archeology, the album will be followed by, Anthropology, and then, Paleontology!

And those next two should be a lot easier to crank out after all the infrastructure's been established... from building the studio, to developing techniques & practices, to the internet infrastructure.

It's worth noting here, that I'd be a lot further along if 2024 hadn't turned my life upside down!

But, if all that bullshit was inevitable, then maybe it makes more sense to look at the early experiments of 2023, and the piano-rolling of early 2024, as getting a jump on things, before the chaos began.
