Heat Wave Monday?

Much nicer than yesterday out there, this morning, with even a cool breeze!

Yesterday's forecast said 86F today, but now it looks like it'll only get up to 84F for a couple hours, and drop back down.

It's still looking bad the rest of the week, but not quite as bad as yesterday's forecast.

Wednesday & Thursday are still high 90sF, but the triple digit prediction is gone.

So [knocks wood] maybe even those will be lower, when we get to midweek [knocks wood again].

I'd love to survive this week without quitting in an overheated rage, because I'm pretty sure this will be the worst of it for the year [knocks wood a third time].

In other news, the plywood on the porch is actually drying out.

It was cool and dry enough overnight to allow for that.

I just flipped it over, and I'm gonna let that fan keep blowing on it another day and night.

Epoxy will be the next step, once it's dry... and cool enough for me to work out there without dying of heat stroke.

The cable for the new rigging came this morning, and I'm expecting that power plug for the digital tuner today as well.

No sign yet of the rotrary phone mike re-delivery.

Do I have everything I need now for HD2.0? I think I do...

  • 2 coats of preservative.

  • Epoxy wood filler waiting to go.

  • Shoulder bolts and flat washers.

  • All the other misc. hardware, including pulleys.

  • Cable.

  • Semigloss enamel exterior paint: Boat House blue.

  • PVC fittings to create two counterweights.

Yeah, I think that's it!

So... I have to leave the old door on while I arrange the new hardware and rigging on the unistrut, because I'll need to stand on the top of that door to do it.

Meanwhile, the plywood needs to be patched, and painted.

I'll also have to fabricate the two counterweights... which will involve opening the first one and removing the gravel... then cutting off the bottom, shortening it, and gluing on a new bottom.

Then making an identical one out of the spare 4" and two other fittings... splitting the gravel in half... and filling them both up.

PVC glue may be the one thing I still need. I have some glue and primer down there, but it may have gone bad by now. I'll have to check that.

But after that, I'll install the hardware on the new door and then it'll be time to do the swap out!

It's gonna be a pain getting the old door off, swapping the hinges over, and getting the new door on... but after that, I should be able to hook up the rigging immediately and have it working [knock knock].

I think this will definitely take two more weekends to get done.

I'm still keeping track of the weeks with my playing deck, and 10 Clubs week began yesterday... meaning there's only four weeks left of astronomical summer.

It's kind of fitting that we'd be having a heat wave in the 10 Clubs week, because it's literally the highest spot card... or height of the season.

As a refresher, the deck is keeping track of Earth's orbit around the sun, with the solstices and equinoxes happening in the Ace weeks of each suit.

Thus the Jacks, Queens, and Kings theoretically represent transitional periods as one season ends, and the next begins.

The Jack of Hearts week, for example, is MAY 28 ~ JUN 03, and that was indeed the week it first got so hot that I made the snap decision to go back to part time for the summer.

I was still able to get work done out in the yard through the Queen and King of hearts weeks.

But by Ace of Clubs (JUN 18 ~ JUN 24) I wasn't doing much but test firing the fire pit oustide, and I was getting the studio together inside, in the AC.

Diamonds will be fall, and Ace of Diamond week is SEP 17 ~ 23.

And as in the spring, when it's a red suit, it means you can get outside and get shit done. The black suits... forget it. Too cold through spades. Too hot through clubs.

As for the actual calendar deck I was working on before Dad died... I have no idea when I'll get back to that.

Recall, that was supposed to be my winter project for 22/23. But the entire winter ended up being about dad's death and the aftermath of it.

This year, it's the recording studio that looks to be the winter project.

As a reminder of how my system works..

December 17th is Joker Day.

Ace of Spade week is DEC 18 ~ DEC 24.

And from there, it's a new card every week.

All you have to remember is that Jack of Spades is FEB 26 ~ MARCH 04... whether it's a leap year or not. You just don't switch to Queen of Spades until March 5th.

And the order of the suits is; Spades, Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds... for winter, spring, summer, and fall.

Well, let's see... I left a little early today so I could stop for both gas and beer.

I made it through the shift without much trouble.

there was a fair amount of garbage, and I did a lot of vacuuming, but the bathrooms had barely been used, so they were easy.

I would not count today as part of a heat wave at all... it managed to hit 86F for about ten minutes and then immediately began dropping.

It was 69F by the time I was driving home.

At home, I had to bring in the big cat food shipment that comes every second Monday, and in with that, was the power plug for the tuner.

But USPS never even attempted redelivery of that rotary phone mike today. No call. No doorbell activation. No slip in the mailbox tonight.

So I have no idea what's up with that!

The plywood didn't dry too much more today, but I'm sure overnight it will.

Tomorrow shouldn't be too bad.

It's really Wednesday and Thursday that they're warning about.

But I don't want to speculate too much about it. I just want to take this week one day at a time, and get through it.
