Remote Porch Post Night 2
Friday, August 26th, 2022 08:35 pmDad's still in the hospital, so it's night 2 out on the porch, in the rocker, with the S8 out there up in the canopy recording, as I keep the dog company for the next three hours.
It was a crazy day. I got up and walked the dog. Then hung out with the kittens for two hours. Then I walked the dog again and she kept me out there for about 40 minutes.
After that, I drove to the hospital and snuck into my dad's room to see him.*
Better to ask forgiveness than permission.

Story here is that the doctor was ready to discharge him today, meaning his medical issues were resolved, including his mild case of covid.
But the physical therapist thought he was still a bit too weak and wanted him to go to a rehab center after discharge.
The rehab center had called me yesterday saying a week of rehab was the recommendation, and wanted me to agree to it, as I have power of attorney.
I told them the answer was no, until I was allowed to see him. Then I called Dad in his room last night and warned him. I told him, if anybody says I agree to rehab they're lying, and to refuse.
He also told me last night that his covid was gone, according to his doc.
He still had other issues, that had not quite resolved, but covid was their reason for preventing me from visiting.
Okay, so today I didn't know the doc was planning to discharge him so soon, because nobody had called me, but I did know there was this physical therapist trying to force him into rehab.
So, sneaking into his room accomplished two things...
First, I got to see for myself that he had really improved. And second, I got to talk to the physical therapist, in person.
She was really only worried about him being alone the first few days for long periods.
He'd done a great job of walking, once on his feet, but had had some trouble getting out of his chair without help.
But even THAT had improved over the course of today... as I knew, from experience, it would.
He always bounces back fast.
So I assured her, I am not starting my new job for well over a week, and even after that, it's only part time.
So I'll be there for him 24/7 as he gets his strength back, and he has all the grab bars, walker, and everything else to assist him already in place.
That reassurance changed her mind.
The end result of my escapade was that doc decided to let him stay one more night, and PT agreed to let him come home with me tomorrow!

It was ridiculous for them to try and shut me out of the loop, but this was not our first rodeo... Dad & I.
It's never easy getting him to go to the hospital... and it's never easy breaking him back outa the joint when they've fixed him up!
But we'll get him back home to his dog, and he should be good to go for the fall and winter as I start my new job, raise those little kitties, and unlock some sweet health care bennies of my own in December.

Back at home by 4PM, I spent an hour upstairs with the kitties and then mowed the damn lawn.
Since long grass has not proven to be in any way helpful through August, for attracting field crickets, I lowered the blade waay down and went for a nice close shave tonight.
Also had to watch out for that in-ground bee hive I marked off with a cinder block.
The bees themselves told me where the acceptable perimeter was... about four feet on every side of the block...
They did a few warning dives at my face to get the message across... forcing me to shut off the mower and run away.
We came to an understanding. I respected their boundaries, and made sure the blower was aiming away from the hive on my closest passes to that perimeter, and they allowed me to finish the back yard without getting stung.
When I was done, I scraped out the grass pulp from the undercarriage of the mower and packed it all in the space around those locust seedlings... covering that with dry clippings.

After the lawn mow, I spent another hour upstairs with the kitties, then packed my tote bag to come camp out down here on the porch for three hours... with the door open to the kitchen, and the dog, now sleeping in the back room.
------------{=0=}------------
I havent had a chance to listen to last night's recordings.
Tonight, the field crickets aren't so lively... which I assume is because it's a few degrees cooler.
But the Bush crickets are also more mellow and toned down, which is never bad.
The wing tappers, on the other hand, are quite loud and strong. So whatever I can salvage of this canopy recording will be great for them!
It being Friday night, there's been some hullabaloo going on out there from time to time.

I think I'm just gonna keep stockpiling footage for a while, and worry about producing after I have a good stash to work with.

Speeders continue to be conspicuously absent on this Friday night, and I've been thinking on and off all day about the Legend of Speeder movie script.
Of course, it has to be a trilogy, with the first movie an origin story set in 1954.
Vampires exist, so there have to be witches too. So... it'll be like Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Baby Driver, meets Back to the Future, meets James Dean, meets...
I've got a lot of note carding to do.

*I worked in a hospital for 12 years, and I've been familiar with Dad's hospital for 6 years, so I knew how to walk past the front desk purposefully, like I belonged there, or possibly even worked there.
And once up on his floor, I knew how to walk purposefully to his room without being noticed by the busy staff and just duck inside unnoticed.
My stay was only about 40 minutes total. I was found out in the first 20 minutes but they actually allowed me to linger, because I had a mask on and was being cooperative.
The Doc on the phone asked me if they'd let me in to see him and I told her I'd snuck in, and it wasn't the staff's fault, and promised not to do it again. She forgave me quite quickly.
