Cloud Model of Socks

64F and clear tonight with a first quarter moon.
My watch told me this morining that I'd gotten 6.5 hours of, "fair," sleep.
and I was like, What're you talkin' about? I slept good!
But sure enough I was totally wiped out by about 4PM, and struggled the rest of the shift.
The graph showed not a lot of deep sleep, so I guess that's the difference.
As for why?.. who knows?
Hopefully the new mattress in October will make a difference.
I ordered socks on Amazon today... as the lastest little quality of life improvement.
And this time, I'm approaching socks with a whole new mindset.
You see... for too long, I have seen socks as solid, classical objects that come in pairs.
And that's lead me to buying variety packs of sock pairs, where every pair is a different color, and a different pattern... because how fun!
But inevitably, a few individual socks blink out of existence, and suddenly I don't have enough matching pairs!
So to cover the gap, I'll buy a quicky 4-pair pack of monochrome socks.
And those four pairs seem to last longer, because I don't notice when one individual sock of that variety goes missing!
But eventually all the socks start to get holes... so off I go to buy another 7-pair variety pack!
I throw out the holey ones and keep the survivors from the old guard of socks for emergency use.
But the same cycle starts over, and soon I'm buying a quicky 4-pair pack of monochrome socks again.
And over time, those monochromes get paired up with their monochrome predecessors, which are similar, but not exact matches.
And the whole sock drawer starts to devolve into anarchy!
And the result is never having much sock security for very long... and most of the time having a lot of sock anxiety!
And meanwhile my sock drawer's filling up with old one-offs that I'm never wearing again, but still feel like I should keep around... again... for emergencies!
Okay!.. so what I did this time was drop $40.00 on 14 pairs of identical gray socks!
And as soon as they get here... I'm throwing away ALL the other socks in the sock drawer!
And yes!.. I know that sounds extreme!
Why throw away good pairs of socks when you could hang on to them for emergencies?
But NO!.. Look!.. I have suffered through emergencies of all kinds, over the past ten years!... and never ONCE has there been a sock emergency!
The insanity ends tomorrow!
I will be getting 28 individual gray socks... all identical... and THEY will be my socks, for the next year!
And next September, I will do it again... and THROW AWAY, all the surviving socks from this year!
It the ONLY WAY, to maintain sock sanity!
And I will explain why!
Every year, I spend $80.00 on a pair of shoes that makes it about 14 months.
And that's a necessary expense, and it's fine.
So why not spend $40.00 per year on a pair of socks, that lasts as long as the shoes?
And yes, what I'm saying here, is that I am buying a single pair of $40.00 socks!
You may look in my sock drawer and count 28 individual socks on day one!.. but that number will dwindle over time, and it will not always be an even number!
The, Sock Uncertainty Principle, says;
- Half the socks will vanish over a year, but you cannot predict which individual sock will vanish next, or when it will happen.
- It's impossible to determine which individual sock was entangled with which other sock from the factory... once they've all been through the wash.
- It's impossible to determine which individual sock will be paired with which other in the future, when two are next picked to be worn for the day.
This is because there is only a single pair of socks, existing in a superposition, as a probability cloud!
You spend $40.00s on a single pair of socks... but that pair exists as a probability wave of many socks, which decoheres over time, until you're left with, like... 13 socks in various states of decay... and then the wave function collapses, and you have no socks!--<>--
Actually, the more I'm thinking about this, the more it seems like those 14 pairs probably won't make it a year!
You may need to start with, like 21 pairs, for there to be 7 pairs left a year later.
Well... I guess I'll study this as it goes and try to track how quickly the probability cloud of socks I just ordered decoheres into... not a week's worth of socks anymore.
I'll figure this out!------------{=0=}------------
On that note, my average step count has gone down from 14K per day, to 9K per day.
That 14K from pre-May of this year, included not only the janitor gig, but the dog walks.
These days, I'm walking less at work, but I do still put in two-blocks per day to get to the parking garage and back.
According to Samsung Health, 9K is still well above average for people in my age group.
But it does mean that my socks & shoes should last a little longer than they have the past couple years.------------{=0=}------------
I'm still just waiting for that day... after the new mattress, shoes, suspenders, etc, are broken in... and my body's also adjusted to the novel demands of the new job... more heavy lifting on the regular... more contorting into weird positions to get something done.
It'll be long about December or January.
But there will be that day where I realize I'm sleeping well, and no longer riddled with muscle aches... and actually hardened and ready to hit the bricks every day with no complaints!
And that day will be just the start of a one-to-two year process of getting everything else streamlined... including the finances!
So... yeah!.. It would've been a big mistake to try and scramble to buy the house back, this October.
I've been through enough the past couple years!
It's time to establish some lasting stability.
