Snags & Breakthroughs

72F and cloudy this morning, with a chance of rain this afternoon.

I woke to a call from Mr. Taylor.

Luckily, last night I got my coffee ready to go, in the machine, so I turned it on while telling him I was just getting ready to go to the law office on Lake Street.

When I did get over there, Melissa told me she'd actually received the payout agreement that she'd requested, late yesterday afternoon... so mine wasn't necessary.

The new one doesn't expire until August 8th.

But she said they never got Brian's paperwork, so now that's the new snag!

But there were a few other things with the city they were also waiting on.

So I came back here and called Mr. Taylor back to bring him up to speed.

Now I'm trying to get hold of Brian, but he's not answering.

10:11PM

Turned out to be a dramatic morning as I did get Brian's attention by posting to the sibling group thread... and then we were trying to figure out what to do.

It didn't make any sense that his stuff got lost in the mail, but it figured!

Brian was broke and couldn't afford postage, so the plan was for him to have the document re-signed, and re-notarized at the bank where Karen works, and then I'd drive out to DeKalb in the morning... get it myself... and hand deliver it to the lawyer's office.

It was all very stressful, but not five minutes after I clocked in at work, Melissa called back and said they'd gotten Brian's papers!

WHEW!

I still suspect they've had them for a week but just misplaced the envelpe, because it wouldn't have looked like what they were expecting.

It would've been just a normal business envelope with hand-printing on it, and a single ordinary stamp.

I think my going in there today and describing that to them probably triggered them to double check and they found it!

Cuz there's no way it took 10 days to get delivered... and then just magically appeared the same day I was in there.

But because they now have the new HELOC payout, and all the sib papers, we made an appoint ment for me to sign my end of the papers on Monday at 11AM.

So that's the 29th.

Hopefully the whole deal closes by Wednesday the 31st!

That'd mean I get my money in time to pay the bills and rent in the five day grace period at the start of August.

And then as soon as that dumpster is down in the driveway, that's it!

Prowly's on his own, and I won't be going back there, cuz it won't be our house anymore!

------------{=0=}------------

On the drive home tonight, on Jackson Street, near Benton, a shadowy catlike figure crossed my path as I slowed to the stop sign... and then it went off south.

Benton's about four blocks north of the house... and I wondered if maybe it wasn't Prowly... but the cat was in shadow, so I couldn't make out any details.

The theory here would be that Prowly does recognize the sound of my car (which does have a distinctive wheel whump coming from one tire)... and has already caught on that I drive past every night on Jackson, around the time I normally used to come home... but continue north.

And now he's investigating to figure out exactly where I'm driving to... because he knows it can't be that far... cuz I'm always back the next day to give him more food.

So like, from Benton, which isn't too far from home, he'd be able to see I go left just one more block north, at Downer.

From there, it's a straight shot to the parking garage... a mile away.

So if this theory were true... then prowly could conceivably figure out where I live... if he were up to roaming about two miles from home... and if he were bold enough to stalk around downtown, where there's no lawns or houses... only concrete, big buildings, and bridges over a freaky river.

I think he is that bold, so... it's not impossible that I get confronted by Prowly one night, coming out of the parking garage!

I know this may all sound wishful or fantastical, but I feel like I should be prepared for a situation like that!

Because after they take posession of he house, he may indeed track me down.

So I should be ready for it.

Like I should bring what's left of his food here, and get his litterbox up here, just in case!

Because if he did confront me on the street at night, I could probably get him to follow me to the building.

And If we went in the trash room entrance, I might be able to get him to join me in the freight elevator, and into the flat.

So, I'd need to show him a litter box, and be able to feed him right away.

But if I did, he might stay!

He'd recognize every single object in this flat, including the rugs, not just by sight, but by smell.

Okay, let's plan this out a bit more...

I should have the harness and leash in my backpack at all times.

And I have two cat carriers, so I should have one in the flat, and one in the car.

This, with food and a litterbox in the flat... would leave me as prepared as possible for the scenario where Prowly tracks me down.

If he did track me down, it would be Prowly willingly seeking me out, so the likelihood he'd stick around would be a lot higher.

Also, he'd know firsthand, exactly how far we were from the hood, because he'd have already gone back and forth between here and there several times on foot.

Jackson ends at at T-intersection with downer, so it's not very confusing, and that path from the house to here, at night, is almost no traffic.

As I said, this could be wishful or fantastical, but it's not impossible... especially after he's homeless and has nothing better to do with his summer.
