No template for this entry, as I'm writing from my phone, but 3 of Clubs week did begin today.

I just got back to the house tonight after being at the flat all day, unpacking and hanging pictures.

I slept here last night. And prowly came in for his food like normal... but this morning he was not sleeping on the cat climber like normal.

I stayed until the walk through at noon, but no sign of him.

Tonight he's back... eating as I write this sentence.

===

Last night I'd already decided to wait until Wednesday (tomorrow morning) to take him to the vet, because I needed another day to fully unpack.

I want to bring him to a fully set up flat after his surgery.

But his no-show this morning was disconcerting.

If he's not here tomorrow morning, that's it!

I can't take him Thursday, because of the holiday... and they don't do surgeries on Fridays, or the weekend.

And once I'm back to work, forget it!.. cuz I just took 5 days off and will not be able to pick him up at 4PM and be with him in the flat afterward.

===

So, if it doesn't happen tomorrow, it's just not happening.

===

So yeah... today was a walk through at noon.

Then a trip to the storage unit to drop more stuff off.

Then over to the flat where I unpacked for 8 hours, from 1PM to 9PM, when Colleen and I finally met up and went to Denny's.

I made everything disappear into the available drawers, cabinets, shelves and closet... except for the two older PCs, which are now in storage.

I also got a lot up onto the walls.

The only box left is what's left of the pictures and tapestries, but there's plenty of wall space left to get them up tomorrow.

It's feeling more like home now that all my stuff is surrounding me and nicely organized.

===

The plan for tomorrow is...

  1. Get Prowly into the carrier and over to the vet by 9AM.

  2. Get thw cat climber and litter box over to the flat and then finish the decor and vacuum by 3:30PM.

  3. Pick up Prowly at 4PM and bring him to the flat.

  4. Stay there with Prowly and see how he adjusts.

The fireworks are also tomorrow night so... not sure if I'll go or not, but Colleen wants to see them.

She had trouble sleeping last night, and so didn't get up until late.

But she spent most of her day over here packing up stuff and then taking it to the storage unit.

She took out of the unit the sacred lock box that I put in there a few weeks ago... to take back to her hotel room tonight and go through it.

Dad's parents, as well as he and Mom kept all the important documents in this box, along with a few keepsakes, like old coins.

And tonight, Colleen found Dad's wedding band!.. which we thought had been lost when he was in the hospital after breaking his hip.

Apparently he put it in there at some point before then... possibly because he was losing weight and it wouldn't stay on.

But he never mentioned it to Me.

Personally, I think maybe he realized he was gonna die soon, after the close call in August of 22.

Though again, he never said anything to that effect.

===

It's weird being in this house tonight with everybody's stuff gone.

It still feels a little like Melody Manor, because the kitchen table and chairs are still here, but the house has never been this empty... probably in it's history.

I had to bring beer and coffee over in a backpack tonight, like I'm just camping here.

And starting tomorrow, I sleep at the flat.

After that, maybe a few more day trips over here, but... it's not my house anymore.

And it's not Dad's house either.

For everybody but Colleen and I... the last time they will ever have been here, was last October.

The story is ending.

But at least it won't be BMOs house!.. and at least the story didn't end with the Sheriff at the door.

I hope this next chapter of my own story goes better than this past one.

It seems to hold a lot of promise right now.

The new flat feels like a super deluxe office!

Like, as an office, it's balls!.. because it's got a great view... it's own bathroom and kitchennette... and it even has a twin bed to nap on!

But seriously, I do think I'll be content there for a while.

And it is fun to be downtown.

It's a lot prettier and more lively than back in the bombed out 90s.

Lots of young people around.

And downtown seems to have rebranded itself as a haven for artists and the arts.

Many old buildings are now art schools, or art studios, and there are murals large and small all over the place.

And I think it's finally found it's true identity with that.

Because the folks who built it, between 1880 and 1930, really went out of their way to make it singular and beautiful.

There are so many little gems of buildings, that are one-offs, like the tower itself.

And the elevated tracks...

And the eight bridges, connecting the island to the east and west sides of the river are almost breathtaking at twilight, when their lights come on.

If you're crossing any one of them, you see the others, reflecting in that water.

Back in the day, they were going for this, Paris of the Midwest, vibe... to Chicago's London.

And that was kinda forgotten after the street cars went away, and modern recessions emptied the storefronts, and gangs roamed the desolate streets.

But downtown Aurora really has found it's way back... slowly... over the past 30 years.

And I think the art angle is just the prescription to get it relevant again in the 21st century.

It's big enough to have real cultural diversity, and it's own Gay Pride Parade.

And... hopeless romantic that I am... it's fitting to be falling into the midst of all this by renting the smallest studio in the tallest building.

It's just a shame I'm not younger.

But maybe that's for the best.
