Move SAT

80F and slightly overcast today.

I only realized this morning WHY, my schematic is more optomistic than reality about the size of the apartment!

It's because it was based on a count of the floor tiles in the flat, and the ASSUMPTION that each tile was a square FOOT!

This is the grid I imposed on their schematic the night of the walkthrough, after counting the tiles, with Fernando.

As you can see, the living space is 11 tiles wide, and 13 tiles long, to the kitchenette.

And I took that to mean the space was 11 X 13, or 143 square feet!.. with a little extra around the perimeter!

In reality, it's 9 X 12, or 108 square feet!.. with a little extra.

And that's a difference of 35 square feet!

--<>--

So... those tiles are not a square foot!

But I based this huge life decision on the idea that they were!

And there's nothing I can do about it now!

The lease has been signed... the rent and deposit have been paid... the house is being sold... the boxes are packed... and the U-haul's been reserved!

But it's not like, if I'd realized the mistake, I could've found a different place!

This was my only option, given the circumstances.

So... I guess it was good that I was fooled?

Because if I'd realized it was only 9 X 12, I'd never have considered that studio seriously at all!

And that could've lead to a bad situation where I either went to a place I couldn't afford, or stayed here too long looking, and the sheriff came knocking on the door.

So, I'm not gonna view this as a mistake.

It's simply a move I had to make, to get out of a terrible situation... and in a year I can upgrade to a 1BR in the same building.

1:02PM

Man, is it humid out there!

I just loaded the rug, mini-fridge, and dolly into the van.

I'm gonna take them over, set them up, and see if there's an AC unit in the window yet.

If there is... I may do a second trip with the corner desk.

------------{=0=}------------

2:41PM

I dollied the mini-fridge into the unit and it fits perfectly in the kitchenette space.

No AC was installed on friday.

But I brought the rug up, and rolled it out in the orientation I originally wanted.

I simply folded the excess under, on the side where the bed will go, and it was only three or four inches.

I then went home, and brought back my vacuum, and a garbage can with the dry rug shampoo, a brush, trash bags, and an extension cord.

The extension cord was for the bulky fridge because it's cord is so short it can't reach an outlet unless it's on the rug.

I plugged that fridge back in, to prevent it getting moldy and then spent quite a while brushing the shampoo into the rug.

That turned out to be a fairly meditative experience.

Down there on the floor, brushing, and focused on the details of the rug... listening to the downtown sounds out the window... cars... birds... a passing train... the place didn't feel so small.

There won't be much floor space when everything's in there, but with nothing being very tall, and with those mirrors, I think it'll be fine.

I have three full length mirrors, so one will go on the closet door, which won't reflect much of anything, but the other two will be mounted landscape style, higher up on the two side walls of the living space.

I want them above eye level so that I don't have to see my ugly face everywhere I turn, but they'll still both reflect the front window well, and create a nice illusion of open space.

------------{=0=}------------

3:40PM

The corner desk was successfully dismantled and loaded into the van.

I need to give the dry shampoo time to work, but in a while, I'll go over there, vacuum it up, then get the desk parts into the flat, and reassemble it.

With that, the trickiest part of the move will be done!

------------{=0=}------------

4:00PM

I loaded the bed frame too, and two small corner stands that I think can work in the bathroom and the tiny closet.

Prowly's harness, leash, and cat dancer just arrived from Amazon.

------------{=0=}------------

7:27PM

Took a few tripst to get the dismantled desk parts into the flat, and to get the damn thing back together, but she's in!

It only overlaps the radiator by one spine, though it looks like more from this angle.

There's enough room between the bed and the corner desk to move around a bit in the desk chair... and of course it fits under the desk when not in use.

The bed, thankfully fits in that radiator setback area.

And my night stand will fit in that space to the left of the bed.

There's plenty of room on the rug, after the foot of the bed, for the rocker.

HOWEVER... there's not room for the kitchen table to fit between the rocker and the kitchenette! It would leave less than two feet of space to stand in front of the kitchenette!

So it's one or the other, but I do not want a kitchen table at the foot of my bed, so it's the table that's out!

There is a little, table-height shelving unit in the Melody Manor kitchen that could fit well in that space between the rocker and the kitchenette, so I'm gonna use that instead.

And I'll stick with the original idea to have the sconce lamp over that little stand so there's room on it for my little coffeemaker, prowly's food, and some food prep space.

There's the kitchenette with my mini fridge, and the tall stupid fridge that's going away.

I wish I could get rid of that stupid electric range in the countertop, because I'm never gonna use it, and I could do with the space.

Maybe I'll make something out of wood that just sits right over it.

And I'm replacing the microwave with an air frier.

One of the two corner stands I bought years ago... which fits exactly in the corner behind the toilet!

There's almost no space on that vanity to set anything, so it's gonna be that corner table and wall shelving units to hold all the bathroom stuff.

The other corner stand fit's perfectly in the tiny closet and gets the vacuum up off the floor, so I can store more in there than just the vacuum.

Not pictured is the hanger rod, which should accomodate my jackets and a few shirts, and there is a shelf above that with high headroom, where I'll probably put my tool bucket and a few other things.

------------{=0=}------------

So that's how things are shaping up on, Move SAT.

The only casualty so far is the kitchen table.

The next question is... will the rest of the desk, the cat climber, and the dresser all really fit on that south wall?

If so great!.. but if not, one of the desk components has to be sacrificed!

Hopefully I'll figure that out tomorrow.
