79F and blue skies this morning, on it's way up to 87F.

I woke up thinking, yes... I will have to dismantle the corner desk to get it onto the truck, and then into the apartment... then reassemble it in the flat.

Because it's not gonna want to go out my door, or in the building's door very easily with just me moving it.

So the plan is to get it over on Sunday afternoon, with the rug, bed, rocker, and dresser drawers... all the awkward stuff.

Then pack the truck at home Sunday evening... boxes first, then furniture.

If I pull the truck in to the driveway, head first, that makes it pretty easy to take everything out the front door, and wheel it around to the back of the truck.

Maybe I should bring the box of power strips and electrical stuff over on Sunday too.

Just paid the rent with the Discover card.

I then called and left a message with Fernando telling him I'm paid up and asking if I can get the keys on Saturday to start moving in on Sunday... and also air conditioning!

So hopefully he'll call me back, now that I'm paid up!

Time to continue packing!..

11:40AM

Prowly's inside, snoozing on the cat climber down in the studio room.

I managed to close up six boxes, here in the back room; tape cassettes, tape overflow, legacy A/V, legacy manuscript & drawings, and electrical 1.

There will be an electrical 2 later this week for the cameras, wifi repeater, and associated power strips, extension cords, surge protectors, and the power strip for this computer.

That's enough for before work.

I'll pack a box of dishes tonight.

Spent the day touching up hallway walls with, Soft Fern, all around on the 1st floor.

The big part of the job was in an area outside the cafeteria with counter seating along the walls... with the walls below the counters all scuffed up from shoe marks of people sitting on the stools.

It's a good thing I found a pair of knee pads in the basement yesterday and brought them in today, because I used them!

Mark also bought my chainsaw off me, and a socket set, for a total of $130.00 cash.

Roberto wants to buy my meiter saw for $400.00, but has to ask his wife first.

I may be able to sell a few of the other tools, though they don't have batteries.

Fernando never got back to me today.

I may just have to go to the tower in person this week.

As for Prowly, I'm thinking if the move goes smoothly, I may be able to come back here on Monday night and get him into the cat carrier, if he decides to stop in for food.

Then maybe we could get him in to get fixed on Tuesday.

I'm supposed to get the harness and leash on Saturday, so if he spent the night with me on Monday night, I could take him outside if he got restless.

A plan like this is more reason to get the corner desk, rocker, and bed set up on Sunday afternoon.

That way, when I get everything moved in on Monday afternoon, it won't take so long to get all the furniture arranged.

So, if I bring Prowly over on Monday night, he'll already have places to sit, hide, or whatever, while I'm unpacking.

I really hope it can all work out with Prowly being my big city kitty in the tower!

As I've said, the high rise is on an island in the river... Plot's Island.

And the island is bisected, lengthwise, by Plot Avenue, which is three blocks long, and never very busy.

So I imagine getting Prowly used to the boundaries of the Island first, on our walks.

Like, he should pick it up fairly quickly, that our four block neighborhood is surrounded by river on all sides.

I just wonder what he'll think about the river!

After a few walks, he'll be able to reconcile what he's seeing out the window, from the 11th floor, to what he's seeing on the ground.

Cats are very good at making mental maps of their home and territory.

And all animals are good at orienting their mental compass to where the sun rises and sets... i.e. telling east from west.

So he should figure out pretty quick that the flat is facing east, and that the building is on the west side of Plot Avenue, with it's ass hanging over the west branch of the river... that's not visible from his window.

He'll know that, because there's a little park right outside the building, right on the river.

But he'll know the branch of the river he can see from home is on the other side of the street.

And in fact, I can probably take him into the stairwell to hop up on that window sill and get a view north, to see the island's edge on that end... where the two branches merge into one, and trail away.

A ground level walk to the south end... if it's still permissible would give him the complete picture.

In the olden days, if you went into the back parking lot of the old post office, you could look straight off the south end of the island to a smaller, uninhabited island.

Free access to that lot was blocked for years, when the old post office was the Sci-Tech museum... but Sci-Tech went under in 2020.

I've been wondering, what clues, may Prowly have gotten over the past 16 months, that there is a river, two miles from here?

Do animals talk among themselves, out there in the dark back yards?

Has he heard the legends... perhaps from crows... of the bustling heart of town, where the great waters flow?

At any rate, Prowly is a smart young cat, and we may be living together in that studio for several years.

So I'd like him to be as liberated as possible... to experience the world outside our little flat... and understand where our flat is, in relationship to that world.

And I think all the residents and people around downtown would get a big kick out of this cat who goes for walks with his old man in tow.

People would get to know Prowly.

Maybe I'd get a few trusted volunteers to walk him when I'm away... or at least cat sit if I ever went out of state.

11:30PM

Prowly just came inside, and now it's thundering out there.

I tried to play with him a bit, and he was into it, but he did go in for the kill like usual... but he held back very admirably!

It's the first time he didn't draw blood!

That is a HUGE change!

--<>--

He's been around a lot more, and showing more restraint, ever since Yvette left... and especially since I've been emptying out the rooms and putting everything into boxes.

He knows something is up... and he's been signaling that he'd like to stick with me, wherever I'm going.

I mean... Snoop knew something was up late last February, so Prowly knows somethings up!

It's likely both of them already went through some kind of eviction as kittens, which is how they wound up on the streets before I adopted them.

--<>--

The point is, I think if he's fixed... and therefore no longer plagued by that inner demon... we could work things out.

And he has an incentive to do so, because he'll get me to himself.

No more competition with Snoop and Yvette for my attention.

And he already walked with me every time I walked Yvette, so... I do think he'll take to it pretty quickly!

Okay, I've gone on long enough about this tonight.

Four more days of work before it all starts to play out for real.
