85F and sunny, on it's way back up to 90F today.
I stayed up too late last night, so... I'm up, but I'm tired.
Don't feel like working on the move, or the sale.
It's tough trying to start a new job and move at the same time... and then have nothing but 90s every day.
I just called, Two Men & A Truck to see what they'd cost and holy God!
For a two mile move into a studio apartment this guy estimated at least $800.00!
That's insane!
I think I'm just gonna have to rent a U-haul and move myself!
The hardest thing will be the corner desk, but I guess I can break it down again if I have to.
Of course, it's also gonna be 95F on July 1st!
I need to find out if I can rent a U-haul overnight...
Okay, I'm on hold with them now...
I'd like to be able to pack the truck the night before and then just drive it over to the tower in the morning.
If it's a big enough truck, I should be able to do it all in one trip.
...
Okay, I reserved a truck for June 30th that I can keep for 24 hours. It was only $30.00 and then they charge per mile, which won't be much.
Guess I'm moving myself!
I also brushed the dog hair out of the hallway runner rug and stuffed it in the washer.
Where's that mock up I made for the apartment layout...
Okay, so the desk and the chair are downstairs now.
I need to get the table and night stand down here.
I can replace the table upstairs with the folding table from back here, and I can swap out a night stand from down here up there.
Dresser and rocker are already down here too... and the bed.
Okay, I feel like I did something with my morning, but I'm still no closer to selling anything.
I spent today touching up hand rails, with a little roller, and a pan full of dark green paint, in a shade called, "Hunt Club."
But Tom told me something very interesting today.
Mark is apparetly 66 and his mind is on retirement, which I didn't know... but he said Kristina will almost certainly replace him!
Kristina, as in... the Kristina who hired me over the phone in August of 2022... and the person who talked me into staying when I was gonna go work for D313... and the person who put in the good word for me to Don & Mark, for my current job at Potawatomi!
That Kristina, will probably be my boss at Potawatomi in a year or two!
So if that's the case, I do not have to worry about losing this job!
Just knowing that, makes me feel better about the future.
If I can get into that damn tower on the 1st... and close on this damn house...
And if the union gets us a pay raise for September...
And if Kristina's gonna follow Mark as my boss...
Then I know I'll be able to just chill out in the studio apartment for the next four years, and pay down all the cards, and the PNC loan... and still be able to afford my little life.
And... recover from all the trauma of the past few years... and record my music... and talk to my ZZ plants!
I think the storage unit will need to be a permanent part of that new life too.
Hopefully Colleen can cover it until September, and I get that raise, so I can take over the payments.
But I don't think I'm gonna have time to sell much before I move, and I also have stuff I want to hang on to.
And that storage unit is right on the way to work!
I imagine it being a part of my routine, in the future, to stop there and pick up or drop off something... like a box of old journals I want to go through, or whatever.
It's shaping up to be an interesting lifestyle.
The studio will be like my little cocoon with a view.
But my daily life outside it will involve a parking garage a block away... and a storage unit... out by the freeway... and this gigantic high school building to walk around in all night... surrounded by this sprawling, well manicured campus.
And elevators will be a huge part of my life.
Every day's gonna be an elevator to get outside the building, another one to get to my car, and then another one at work I use all day... then those first two elevators in reverse to get back into the flat.
The drive times will be pretty quick... between home, work, and storage unit... it's all pretty close together.
Yet those drives take me around the outskirts of town, with big skies and farmland... between one built-up destination and the other.
It's gonna be kinda wild!
