86F and sunny, on it's way up to 94F today... which is why I did all the mowing yesterday!

I left off in that entry at 3:48PM, when the batteries died.

It took until 5PM for another pair to charge up, and the time in between was taken up by cooling down, and running some errands.

I finally finished the parking at 5:30, but still had to go around with clippers trimming out of control bushes and weeds in the hot sunlight until 6PM.

Took until 6:30 to cool off... but I was still pretty exhausted, and I started drinking beer... and the day was just shot at that point!

I didn't feel like doing anything else.

So all I did was talk on the phone later that night to Colleen & Tim.

So today I'm up and around before noon, and groceries are on the way.

And I'm hoping to get somwehere, now that the damn lawn's been dealt with.

2:36PM

I finally got my ass upstairs to deal with the desk, bringing my tools, some garbage bags, boxes & tape.

After boxing up, or pitching stuff that was in the desk, I cleared it off and separated the corner module from the side file cabinet, and focused on the corner module.

This Bush Envoy set is pretty good furniture... particle board with sealed laminate exteriors, but that makes them HEAVY!.. even when empty.

Measurements showed the corner desk could make it down the stairs... but could I get it down without injuring myself and/or breaking the desk?

It's all held together with cams, so I detached the top to make it lighter.

But without the top, the rest of it wasn't very stable.

So I ended up breaking it down into three pieces... two of them partially assembled but stable.

I did however cause the dreaded particle board break, at the site of one cam!

But I glued it with wood glue and clamped it, so hopefully it'll be fine.

Then I brought all four pieces, desktop and the other parts, downstairs, one by one.

And then I managed to get the file cabinet module down in one piece by sliding it down the stairs carefully.

So now I'm taking a break, but soon I'll go up and empty out the other two companion modules and get them downstairs.

Then, I guess I'll put the desk back together, because I'm pretty sure it can make it out the door if I have movers.

In one of the drawers was all the cat toys I bought for Snoop & Prowly when they were kittens, along with two collars, each with their names, my phone number, and their address... here at the house.

Pretty heartbreaking!

The last time I used that desk, they were still kittens!

5:52PM

I emptied out the other two desk modules and got them both downstairs without having to dismantle them.

I also emptied out my underbed storage drawers, and went through my dresser drawers.

All of my prized belongings up there, that weren't wall hangings or furniture, fit into four small boxes.

But I did generate five big bags worth of garbage.

I'm taking a break now, but it just started raining out of nowhere, so... another reason it was good I got the lawn mowed yesterday.

This is what my desk is going to look like in the studio!

The modules connect together with joiner plates under the desktop.

All in one PC & studio PC will be in the corner, and then further down, the printer & scanner and other hutches and soforth.

And plenty of storage space in the eight drawers for peripherals, supplies, and whatnot.

I'm finally a little excited about this move, after getting this desk downstairs and, for the first time ever, lined up like this!

I verified on Amazon today that I bought all these modules in January of 2015, only five months after moving back to Melody Manor, and only a couple weeks after Mom died.

Back then I was quite certain I'd have to move out again after Dad died, so I picked these units out specifically to use in my new apartment down the road.

They were never all joined together upstairs, and as the years passed, I became quite certain I was never going to move out of Melody Manor.

But here I am in 2024... having to move into a studio apartment, and this desk will work absolutely perfectly!

I'm also excited to start using it again at all!.. because I haven't been able to use it since Tim left in early March of 2023, after Dad died.

11:41PM

I got my packed boxes from upstairs down into the livingroom and packed up the studio computer & peripherals into a bigger box...

No progress at all on setting up a sale of my shit, this weekend, but I was having a lot of anxiety about both dealing with the stuff upstairs, and packing the studio machine, so I'm happy that's taken care of.

Thanks to gravity, and the super narrow stairwell, getting shit down from up there is a big challenge!

Even carrying garbage out is a bigger pain in the ass than from the main floor, or the basement.

Whatever the case, my laundry's in the dryer, and I'm all clean & shiny, winding on down for another week at work.

Two weeks, and two weekends left before moving day!
