Roof Access

63F and rainy out there this afternoon.
May ended on a bit of a cliff hanger, because I was paranoid about losing my job, and then on Friday I only posted before leaving, but not after I got home.
So, I ran in to Mark out by the dock before I even walked in the door and he didn't mention the drywall patch at all.
Scott's retirement was the only thing on people's minds.
After a while though, Mark did tell me to get back to work on the patch, but even then I think it was just to keep me busy, because Scott and Tom were just sitting around in the shop the whole day.
So I did apply a second coat of mud to the patch, and it's looking better. But it'll take a few more coats before it's good.
Scott finally clocked out at 8PM to begin his retirement, and as soon as he was out of sight, I grabbed his keys, took them up to Stairwell L, undid the padlock, and went out the hatch onto the roof.
There were some cameras on the far corners that could potentially see parts of the roof if they were turned inward, but there's also a huge swath of roof that is completely blind.
No cameras, no windows, and no view to the ground.
So it is possible to smoke up there, but it's also kinda awkward getting through that hatch, so... I dunno how often I'll actually go up there.
As for cameras in general, I didn't start really looking for them until yesterday, but once I did I saw that Chantele was right... they really are everywhere, inside and outside the building.
But according to Scott & Tom, nobody looks at them.
There is no security team in the building, so I think it's a situation where managers can look at the cameras online if they feel like it, but most of the time they just don't.
So, if somebody wanted to trace my movements throughout the building and around the grounds, they could do it... and see that I'm going out to my car every so often to just sit inside it for 12 minutes... or see me going into Stairwell L, and up through the hatch for no reason.
But as long as I'm doing my job, and staying on everybody's good side, nobody's gonna do that.
Anyway, it's Saturday now, and a rainy one, on which I've slept in pretty late.
It's not ideal to have the basement hatch door open when it's raining, but I guess I have to deal with it.
I also have to pay the bills today, but I'm procrastinating on it.
I'm just gonna drink my coffee and try to wake up.
It did rain most of the day continuously, with very dark skies overhead.
But I did walk to Fiesta Food Mart with an umbrella, which was kinda fun!
And I did get some packing done.
In the studio, I packed up the last of the studio stuff; the microphones, headphones, interface box, and associated cords... into a small box that's now here in the back room.
I started a decor box, and added to the elecrical box, and the AV box which are all still open and ongoing in the studio.
I vacuum packed four pillows and a blanket into two garbage bags... sucking all the air out to make them very compact, and sealing the bags with duct tape.
Down in the basement I got rid of some shit that had been waiting down there since Tim was here, to be thrown out. It's in the dog yard now.
And then I hauled up my two, impossibly heavy plastic bins full of journals and other shit to sort through in the studio.
I managed to pitch about 1/4 of that shit... into the recycle & garbage bins.
And what was left was organized into four small, manageable boxes, that are now in the car, waiting to go to the storage unit.
Box 1 is journals 1986~1989.
Box 2 is journals 1990-1995 + 1998 (the jornals for 96 and 97 are on tape).
Box 3 is a printout of an online journal for 2000, plus old shit worth looking at.
Box 4 is funny notebooks with comics, and old photos and letters.
So their weight, and the space they took up has been drastically reduced, and now they're sorted into four very portable, digestible chunks.
Not the massive clearing out of the basement I envisioned, but still a decent step foreward with everything.
I still have to pay the bills tomorrow, and run those journal boxes to the storage unit.
And then I'll just do what I can with the rest of my Sunday.
But I did kind of need today to rest.
And I did talk to Tim for a few hours.
