30F and sunny out there this morning.
Yvette found a piece of pizza on the ground and rushed back home with it.
Final day of February, and I've got bills to pay, but my old lawyer also called this morning, so I have to call him back and see what that's about.
Okay, Tom (my old lawyer) only just found out about the foreclosure, so he was calling to see if I had any council yet.
I brought him up to speed on what's going on and he wished me luck.
I think he's a little sad I didn't call him right away and hire him for this, but... I mean, if he'd been on his game last summer it would never have come to this.
I then went to the BMO portal and paid the damn overdraft, incurred by ComEd.
There's still more than enough in there to cover the March mortgage, so... things should be good on that end.
Okay!.. everybody's been paid!.. including the annual car registration, for which today was the deadline!
Thought I'd have to put the car reg on a card, but I managed to pay it out of my checking account.
I saved AmEx for last, so I could pay them as much as possible, and they got 200.00.
Not much against the current balance, but way over the minimum.
Everybody else got either the minimum or a bit more.
I'm left with $148.00 in the bank.
Based on available credit, and my weekly expenses, I roughly estimate I can last until the end of June, playing this current game of living off cards and paying minimums.
So I have that long to figure a way out of this mess.
But at least I'm safe for March.
I've been editing together home repair videos from my old TikToks, for upload to YouTube.
Since the, Three Doors video, I've done three more... Crawlspace Adventures, Mulberry, and just tonight, Cellar Exhaust Fan.
That last one is currently exporting. I haven't uploaded the other two yet.
With no money to keep going with the storyboard videos for the old songs, this is a nice free project to keep me busy after work on the weeknights.
And if need be, they can serve as solid proof that I've been maintaining the property here for several years... which is relevant to squatter's rights.
Having the overdraft paid at BMO, and money in there for March mortgage means I'll be continuing to pay property taxes... the other big requirement for squatter's rights.
But while I'm here fighting to keep the house... now Prowly seems to have also vanished!
Snoop's still MIA, and it'll be two weeks on Saturday, but now Prowly's been MIA for over 24 hours.
I didn't see him Thursday at all, but I left food out for him and by this morning it had been eaten.
I left more food when I left for work, but it's untouched tonight.
So he hasn't been home at all for over 24 hours.
No sign of him on the walks with Yvette either.
This is all very odd, since, for the first 10 days that Snoop was missing, Prowly was always in and out, and on the walks.
Suddenly, he's got better places to be, just like his brother.
And now I'm worried I'll never see either of them again!
Part of me wonders why I'm fighting to keep the house if both cats have abandoned me!
They were supposed to be with me for the next 20 years here, while I watched the Nuttal Oak grow to full height, and burned acorns in the firepit!
Is the Oak gonna die too?
Why is all of this happening?
But then, while walking Yvette after work tonight, I found, close to home, a very nice twin-sized headboard on the parking, that I carried home.
I had been wanting one for the studio bed, but couldn't afford it.
But that would seem to be a sign I should stay... contradicting the signal from both cat's, that I should leave.
I guess I'm commited to fighting for the house, cat's or no cats, at this point.
This whole chapter of my life has been so sad and mysterious.
Putting together the mulberry video, I was struck by how much that struggle with the fallen tree mirrored events to come.
It fell, but remained alive for a while, just like Dad would do.
And my struggles with the hulking thing, mirror the issues I'm right now grappling with.
That vertical branch that was so dangerous, and so difficult to lay down and cut up... reminds me now of the whole balloon issue.
I tried with all kinds of financial ropes and pulleys to stop it from falling into foreclosure, but all those ropes did was stretch and ease it down there more slowly.
That whole situation was finally saved when the cavalry came in with all their heavy equipment.
So who's the cavalry now?
Or will there even be one this time around?
