3-Day Weekend!?

33F and clear tonight, as the dryer spins.
I went into work on Friday thinking it would be a normal, 2-day weekend, and then Bernice told me we were having an inspection on Tuesday.
I was like, "Well, then I've got tonight and Monday to prepare for it."
And she was like, "No!.. we have Monday OFF!.. That's why I'm telling you!"
Today, obviously was President's Day, but I do not recall getting it off last year... probably because Tim & I were in the thick of the post Dad's death insanity.
So, my Friday night was a bitch, because I had to do a lot of extra dusting and cleaning of drinking fountains and so forth... so I was running all shift.
But I was also happy about a surprise 3-day weekend.
And at home, after a very chilly, windy walk with Yvette, I talked to Brian for a few hours... and we had a good time.
On SAT 17, I slept in until 2:15PM, but the puppy and I had decently long walk... given the cold, and I saw Snoop & Prowly, both outside, and later inside the house.
I switched out the Valentine door hangings with the ones for Saint Patrick's Day.
And then I spent my Saturday evening fixing and finishing up the music for, Never Rains.
I'd thought it was done a week ago, but... as I'm learning, during the week, I always find big flaws that need to be fixed.
With, Never Rains, it was mainly that I did not realize the musical interlude started about six measures before I'd thought.
So there was a lot more interlude composition to do... and then a lot of little tweaking of drums and other stuff.
But by the end of Saturday night, Never Rains was truly done!.. at least for this stage of things.
On FEB 18, I was up at an earlier 1PM.
Saturday had been pretty cold and windy, but today was warmer and nicer.
After walking Yvette, I got to work on, Bed in the Suburbs.
Suburbs was a little daunting to do guitars for, because it's a big number, and it's very, kinda blues/funky?
I got it going and made some good progress, but then, about 4:30PM, with the sun still out, but starting to wane, I got a call from Colleen.
Colleen and I ended up talking until 9PM!.. four and a half hours!
I took Yvette for a late night walk, on which we were joined by Prowly.
Back in the studio, I worked a little more on, Suburbs before retiring to the back room... and later to bed.
I was up before noon today, and it was very mild and sunny outside, so Yvette and I went on a good long walk.
Back in the studio, early, with plenty of daylight left, I got back to work on the guitars for, Suburbs, and spent the rest of the afternoon and evening on the song.
I did make a beer run, and just at sunset, Yvette & I did go for a second long walk.
And Prowly showed himself in the house, like three times, throughout the day, but Snoop has been MIA since Saturday night.
But at any rate, I did get all the guitars for, Suburbs done, as well as some other instrumentation in critical parts of the song.
As I said... it's a big number, so there's gonna be another session with it, just to fill out that instrumental interlude.
But I did get it into good shape, this weekend.
What was composed, originally, as a kind of blues/funk jam... for the bass at least... became, this weekend, a much more disco sounding track!
This is for a lot of reasons...
- Blues/funk are closely related to disco.
- The guitar plugin I'm using has a nice muted string capability, which I'd already used on, Never Rains as a counterpoint to the main guitar... which makes for a somewhat disco guitar sound.
- My TikTok & YouTube feeds have been featuring a lot of disco content and analysis lately.
- I grew up with disco on the radio as a kid in the 1970s, so it's already imprinted on my brain.
So, Archaology is not gonna be a, "disco album," per se, but... being that it is wholly electronic... and that I am in the disco headspace lately...
it will have a very pronounced disco... tincture?.. to it.
And I'm fine with that.
Lawyers & Bankers have the day off, same as Elementary School children, so... there was nothing I could've done to advance the ball on the foreclosure front today.
I am always freaking out on a low level about this issue... constantly picturing being penniless, homeless, or both, in the near future.
But I'm also being more creative right now than I've been... possibly ever!.. recording an album on the weekends, and creating videos for old songs during the week.
So this is the creative winter I planned for... if only because I'm persuing that with a vengeance, to spite the financial fates.
But there is a lot of inspiration to be drawn from these old songs that feels relevant to the situation.
And so I feel in some way that my younger self is helping me get through this crisis.
It's a weird February to be sure.
