Thursday of Fortune

29F but sunny today.
I was up until damn near 5AM editing the video that documents how I flipped the studio... which is like 27 minutes long... so don't watch it if you're still reading the entry.
It ends with a title saying, "Welcome to TwinCat 2.0," but it struck me this morning that there is little to no footage, or photos of TwinCat 1.0.
And that's because, back between 2000 & 2002, when I was setting it up, first in my flat in Naperville, and later on the west side of Aurora... there was no such thing as a smart phone.
Even digital cameras barely existed!
If you could afford one back then, it sucked total ass.
I do have some videotape of me using that studio, but it's some smaller version of a standard VHS tape, and good luck finding something to play it on.
To me, it doesn't feel like that long ago, but back then, just having the 8-track itself be digital was a huge deal!
And as for my older analog stuff... the way I digitized that was by hooking up a tape deck to my new CD burner.
To get that old stuff online, I then had to rip the data off the CD, and save it to a hard drive.
So it is nice, this time around, to be able to document the building of a studio, and the creation of an album... which is what the next video will be about.
There's obviously other real-life stuff I need to start focusing on pretty soon here.
But I am using this week to get the ball rolling with the YouTube content... now that the ball's already rolling with the new songs.
This way, I can edit video during the week, while I'm waiting to record again on the weekends.
This week has gone faster, with this other stuff to focus on, while I wait for the final 3-day weekend to arrive.
Next week would be more normal, BUT...
NOAA is still saying the whole week will be an arctic blast from hell.
From Sunday 14 to Sunday 21, the highs will be as follows; 3, 1, 0, 16, 18, 10, 5, and 14.
Over that same span, the lows will be; -13, -15, -18, -11, 9, -2, -6, and -2.
And those negative double digits, for four days in a row are gonna be brutal.
I even considered setting up a space heater in the crawl space, on a timer, to keep the bathroom pipes from freezing, but I don't think there's a good circuit to run something like that.
But I'm out of time now.
Gotta get to work soon.
Okay, so before work I went down into the basement to see if I still had that old little space heater, just in case... and I found it.
Then I went to peer into the crawl space where the pipes go under the bathroom, and I saw a circle of goddam daylight across from where I was standing in the basement!
So I opened the hatch in the music room and hopped down there to see where this hole was, but it's under the porch, so I knew I couldn't patch it from the outside.
But there's also a bunch of scrap fucking shutters and other crap along that wall in the crawl space which would be a huge pain in the ass to try and get out of my way.
So I drove to work thinking, those pipes do not stand a chance if there's large air holes in the foundation... especially so close to them.
But to properly mortar those holes is too big a project to try and do right now!
So I realized, I have to drive out to Home Depot first thing Saturday and buy some pipe heating wires and insulation! But it's fine... I'll put it on the Home Depot card!
And then I started thinking maybe I should just get up early tomorrow (Friday) and get the shit on the way to work, so that I didn't have to waste time on Saturday.
And THEN... a notification came over the phone, which I caught a glimpse of on my watch... saying something about a winter storm warning!
And after I parked at work I had a look at it...

Basically, a heinous snow-pocalypse of high winds and heavy snow was coming, and would last from 3AM Friday morning... all the way through to noon on Saturday!
So I clocked in, with this realization that driving to Home Depot, either tomorrow, or Saturday, would probably be impossible!.. and the brutal cold would be here by Sunday!
And then I thought, Wait a second!.. maybe I can get it delivered!
Sure enough, Home Depot was willing to deliver the wires and insulation TODAY!.. for the nominal delivery fee of $35.00!
But this was a goddam emergency, so I went for it!.. two six-foot pipe heating wires, and four six-foot tubes of foam pipe insulation... for a grand total of $113.00... on the Home Depot card.
After processing, they said it would be delivered by 9PM, so I crossed my fingers and started my shift.
At 6PM, I was out in the car on a break when the notification came through that the stuff had been delivered... and it included a photo of the stuff on the side stoop.
Just then, the phone rang, and it was Chantele.
She said the district had decided to close the school for tomorrow, because of the impending storm... no kids or teachers.
And she said they wanted all of us out of the building by 5PM, so if I couldn't be there by 8:30AM, I should take PTO for the day!
And of course, I told her there's no way I could be up by 7AM on such short notice.

So here I am tonight, with the resources I need to save the bathroom pipes from the week-long deep freeze that's coming Sunday... AND I have the day off tomorrow to get it all installed!
So... everything just kinda fell into place, thanks to that storm... which forced me to get the shit delivered today... and then also gave me tomorrow off.
And now my 3-day weekend is a 4-day weekend, so that's nice too!
