The Sunny Day
Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024 10:51 am![]() |
32F out there this morning and sunny for the first time in ages.
I was up before 10AM, and heard the Tuesday sirens going off as I made my coffee.
Snoop slept upstairs all night in the back room, and when we got downstairs Prowly was on the porch.
So for the first time in quite a while, both cats were with Yvette and I, as we sat in the back yard.
Groceries were delivered as I began this entry, so I'll get them soon... and in general it's a nice start to the first normal day of the year.
According to the switch log for my new smart plug back here, it turned off at 4AM, and then back on at 9AM... so it seems to be working fine!
It's about to get colder, so I need to do some draft proofing around the windows back here. This week we'll have lows in the teens, but by MLK weekend it's gonna be 20sF by day, and single digits by night.
Okay!.. all the groceries are put away.
I got my audio dongle for the phone the other day so today will be the first test in the car to see if I can hear my stuff through the car speakers.
I did have an issue over the weekend with one of my songs, Magic Monday getting a copyright strike, as I uploaded a slightly newer version of it to SoundCloud!
The bot said that it appeared to incorporate material from, Men's Beat, by, "Various Artists," which is about as ridiculous as you can get.
So I disputed it, saying not only did I not incorporate any existing work, but that I wrote the song in 1996 and have a cassette tape to back that up.
I did find this song on YouTube and it sounds absolutely nothing like my song, so I'm thinking maybe it just... used the same drum sample for the snare???
We'll see how it goes, but I'm guessing once I add other instruments and vocals it will be fine.
As I said yesterday, I'm up to 8 songs now.
But I've also been thinking of just keeping this album to 10 songs.
One that was on the list, Driftwood doesn't really fit with the rest... it's one too many fast songs.
But I want an even number of songs... so I've decided to also cut, Fools in Love.
Keeping it to 10 means I can get the last two backbones done this weekend.
I'd like to have this all done before the end of 2024, so... 10 makes that goal more realistic.
From work, around 3PM I checked the app for my smart plug and it said it was off, and that it had turned off at 2PM.
When I got back here a minute ago, it was on, and the switch log said it went on at 10PM.
And a Google search today said a smart plug should be able to handle a 15A space heater without an issue... and it's warm back here so... it seems like this is gonna work out!
Snoop & Prowly both joined Yvette and I on the walk right after I got back, and then all three ate together in the kitchen, which again... has not happened in a long time!
And my audio dongle worked!
I was able to play my songs in the car speakers at a nice loud volume... as streaming off SoundCloud, from a private playlist.
And on the drive home I sang along at full volume.
My voice is still there, but it's rusty. So this will be a good way to get in some practice every night for a few months, before it's time to actually record vocals.
And it shows me other things like... Never Rains is currently a bit too fast... and the two songs that follow it need to both have third verses, and maybe even some kind of interlude section.
I talked to ChatGPT about the copyright strike.
It confirmed that this claim was generated by an algorithm on the SoundCloud side... because it was a private upload... and said that the algorithms look at the wave form and compare them to copyrighted material.
This version I uploaded was just bass with a few drums... only a kick, high hat, and ride.
So I can see how some random segment of it might've looked similar to a modern, "beat," made by somebody... just using a bass guitar and a kick drum or something.
ChatGPT said SoundCloud does review disputes, but there's no telling how long it'll take.
So... I'm still thinking, once I add more to it, and if I upload it under a new name, with tags and stuff, maybe it'll just cease to be an issue.
Just sucks that right now I can't hear it with the rest of them.
Oh well.
