Halloweekend SUN

44F and gloomy today... and I did put on the thermal underwear when I got up.
The view out the wake up window was more clear than ever, and both cats were upstairs while I made my coffee.
The main goal today is to get the other front window upstairs back into shape.
That's the one with the air conditioner, so I'm gonna need to do a bit of measuring and cutting of left over OSB or plywood to panel around the AC unit in the space where a storm window would be.
I'd like to get the back windows too, but the sashes need to come out of them for repairs, and they need to be painted on the exterior too, so... they may wait until next weekend.
If I have spare time after the upstairs AC window, it's better spent getting a start on the studio window, because the sashes can be out of that one for a week.

Got the sashes and the storm sectional out of the north upstiars window, brought them all down to the porch, glazed and painted them...

And then I painted the storm frame upstairs, and the ledge.
After that I got the storm sectional back in place, then measured and cut a panel of plywood that will go below it, down to the air conditioner.
That panel is now painted and drying on the work table.
I'm at a stand still until it dries, because I need to get the sashes back on the table to clean the fronts, before I can start putting things back together up there.
I'm gonna need two smaller side panels for either side of the AC, but they'll be done last.
Well, the project got away from me at the end. :(
I did get everything back together... the outer, upper storm... a plywood panel beneath it... the upper and lower sashes... everything blue on the exterior... glass panes all clean.
However, I ran into trouble getting the AC back in there, and the side panels... it was just a measuring nightmare, and I had to cut the side panels twice.
It's back together, and the AC is in there with unpainted side panels that are not secured yet... and there's no hole for the extension cord down to the bush lights.
It's good for the night, but there's gonna be some more fussing and fighting to get everything right.
And I lost the light, so I couldn't even take a photo from outside after I quit for the night.
I should've taken a shower by now, but I'm only just sitting down here to decompress after the unexpectedly stressful ending to a project that went a lot slower than I wanted.
Coming into this weekend, I thought all I was gonna do was get the storm sectionals from the closet back into upstairs windows real quick.
I did not think I'd be removing any sashes upstairs... and I thought the exterior frames were not paintable without a ladder.
But one thing lead to another and next thing you know I was pulling sashes and glazing stuff, and painting frames and... basically doing the, "global window repair," that I had imagined a few weeks ago... but didn't think was gonna happen until spring.
So, now the plan is to get all the upstairs windows fully repaired and painted in early November!
And the studio window can wait until later in November.
But once that's done, the house is gonna be in great shape for winter!
For almost a decade, I've been duct taping the fuck out of those upstairs windows in the winter, and taping garbage bags over them and shit... to keep the cold out.
And all those windows, including that livingroom window with the missing storm, were just sand blasted by the elements, with loose glass panes, rattling and ready to fall out.
What I've accidentally embarked on this weekend is gonna be a huge improvement, not only for energy efficiency, but for looks, and for extending the life of these old windows.
I didn't spend a dime this weekend either! This was all done with existing tools & materials from the hatch door and storm window projects.
That single gallon of Boat House Blue I bought for the hatch door is really going a long way!
So... it's a good thing that the livingroom storm fell out and broke back in June... and that plexiglass was too expensive... forcing me to work with actual glass.
Because it got me over my fear of working with windows... and this weekend got me over my fear of pulling sashes out!
