HOUSE CLEANING!
Monday, October 16th, 2023 10:52 am![]() |
50F and overcast on this Monday morning. I still have not cleaned a goddam thing in this house yet!
I ended up spending all of Saturday finishing the house history.
I was so close to finishing chapter nine, I just made a final push for it, but then of course with dog walks and a final sibling conference call... next thing you know it was 2AM, and I was still tweaking the whole document.
Wasn't up on Sunday until 1PM, and decided to start printing a full copy, now that my binding machine and other stuff had been delivered.
I had to work through technical issues with the printing, but then it finally got going.
I found myself doing last minute changes to late chapters as early chapters were being printed... scanning a few last photos and documents and adding them in.
Finally, around 7PM I had one copy fully printed out, and then I successfully bound it all together with front and back covers... and then sat down to read it for a while.
I realized that the text in chapter 2 was 14 point, while in all the rest it was 12 point, so I changed that in the file.
And then by about 8PM I was ready to just print five more copies, and bind them all!
Unfortunately, my printer ran out of ink, two chapters into the second copy.
So I ordered two more black cartriges on Amazon, but now they're not coming until Saturday!
So... I wouldn't say it was a waste of two days, because I did get the whole work fully revised, and tweaked, and finished.
And I did get one physical copy printed and bound.
So, on Saturday or Sunday, I'll know what I'm doing... and getting five more together should go pretty smoothly.
But I still didn't get to bed until almost 5AM again this morning!.. So I just forced my ass to get back up at 9:20 AM, and started the day as usual.
Now it's getting on 11:30AM, and I've got today and tomorrow to get the house clean!
Colleen & Sheila also won't be here until Wednesday evening, so I have a lot of Wednesday to finish up the cleaning.
On Friday, we have to be at the church by 10:30AM, so I DO need to be in the routine of getting up by 9:30 this whole week.
Thus, I've gotta just power through today with what little sleep I got, and get my ass to bed early!
Okay, I got a decent start on things.
All shop related stuff has gone onto the porch to await sorting and storage down in the cellar.
All rooms have been garbaged... meaning not just the regular garbage and recyclables, but other shit has been thrown away.
And a load of misc laundry has been started.
All cleaning supplies from around the house have been gathered together on the kitchen table.
After this break, I'll do a global preliminary vacuum, starting upstairs, working down the steps themselves, and moving on to the downstairs.
This is gonna be traumatic for the pets. Poor Prowly's napping upstairs, and Yvette's napping in the kitchen.
After the global preliminary vacuum, I'll put together my cleaning caddy and start a global dusting / wipe down.
Well, I got the upstairs vacuumed, but I'm ready for another break.
50F with windows wide open and fans going... still sweating!
The stairwell will be next, then the livingroom and on into the rest of the 1st floor.
I did the stairwell, livingroom, hallway, Dad's room, kicthen, and bathroom.
Now all that's left is the back room here, where Yvette's been hiding.
Should clarify that in my, "preliminary vacuum," I'm still getting under and behind most things, and getting cobwebs too.
So, it's not a superficial vacuum... but once everything gets dusted and wiped down, I'm sure I'll need to vacuum everything a second time.
There was just way too much cat & dog hair, and other debris to not do this first vacuum.
Also, I have a cannister vac upstairs that stays up there, and a bigger wet/dry vac downstairs.
I even have a little shark hand vac down in the basement... which I'll need to bring up for all the throw rugs/matts.
Those have all gone out onto the porch too, for now.
Looks like the porch is gonna be the final big push tomorrow.
The music room's not bad. Pets never really go in there, and neither do I.
Just cracked a beer, but I do have to go make a beer and smoke run. And I'm sure Yvette will want a walk after that.
But I've really gotta make some progress tonight!
Two biggest rules of cleaning:
- Get the heavy everywhere first, then go in for detail.
- Go from the top down.
So the wipe down should include getting the heavy off sinks and toilets in addition to surfaces and objects.
Cleaning windows and mopping floors will be tomorrow.
I vacuumed the back room before the big break... which was making that beer run, followed by a long dog walk, and then I ate something.
So prelim vac is done, and as soon as I digest my food here, it'll be time for prelim wipe down... just as the sun's going down.
There is no such thing as a preliminary wipe down!
I got the caddy together with different chemicals, tools, rags, pads, wipes, etc... then headed upstairs to start there.
But everything was so dusty and dirty... I was up there the rest of the night, and went through all of my rags.
But I did do a full deep clean of the bathroom and kitchenette up there, and even a second vacuum.
And I finally got my good computer up there hooked up again with it's speakers and it's drives that were down here at different times... and booted it up... and it's working nicely.
I've still got the other one up there with no monitor, but that can wait.
The upstairs is done, except for bedding and mopping the floor.
So first thing tomorrow I'm just gonna focus on the downstairs until it's to the same place as the upstairs is.
Will that take all day? I'm not sure.
A lot of time today was taken up by the garbage, the big vacuum, and getting the caddy set up.
Tomorrow I can just go straight into dusting & wipe down on the main floor.
Still, I think there's NO WAY I won't need most or all of Wednesday to really get done, both inside, and out in the yard with the lawn and the hose reel and stuff.
But only Colleen & Sheila are coming on Wednesday.
Everybody else is coming on Thursday.
And C&S are coming late, so everything should work out.
Colleen's daughter, along with Sheila's son are coming. Dylan is also now coming. Tim's whole family is coming. Kevin's coming with his wife. And Brian & Karen are coming... not sure about Max.
It's gonna be a pretty big crowd of family!
Three washer loads today.
Some clothes, but also blankets, sheets, towels, and rags.
All the last minute plans are happening via text.
Colleen and I were talking about chairs for the back yard.
I only have ten and they're old and gross looking... but new ones are insanely expensive.
We realized we can rent them.
30 chairs, dropped off and picked up, for $60.00. I'm throwing in 50.00 for it.
She'll throw in an extra 14 for a table.
She's ordering them. I'll venmo her.
