Thunder Snore
Sunday, July 24th, 2022 01:18 amIn hindsight, I now see it was inevitable, that a guy running a podcast & blog, called, Snoozefest, would eventually fall asleep on the job!..
This piece of audio gold, embedded below, is exactly what I created, Dial for! It's me, snoring pretty loudly, two feet away from the S8, and my open bedroom window!
And hilariously, there is a squirrel on a tree branch outside the window, gnawing at a walnut, while I'm snoring away...
The story behind this begins after midnight as Friday the 22nd turned into Saturday the 23rd, as I was drafting yesterday's blog entry.
Right after I was done... around 3AM, the Wifi went down! I was desperate to get it back up, because I wanted to proofread the entry before getting to bed. And I was running out of smokes, so it had to get done quick!
But, try as I might, I couldn't get the wifi router to train up again! I babysat it for over an hour, but it just wouldn't come online! I finally figured out that AT&T was down because of a huge storm system passing to the north.
I gave up and went to bed, but an hour later, I heard thunder, so I had to jump up, throw open the bedroom window, and get the S8 on it's tripod recording!
I tried to go back to sleep, but I couldn't. And the rainshower passed without any good thunder. So I turned off the S8, closed the window, turned the AC back on, and finally...
Oops! Nope!.. an hour later, I heard more thunder and had to do the whole, song & dance, a second time!
And then I had to do it a third time!
And then I had to do it a fourth time!
------------{=0=}------------
The first two times were false alarms. I got some rain recorded, but no good thunder.
The third time, around 7:30AM, I did capture ten minutes of great audio, with eight good thunder claps, loud and clear!
The fourth storm was good for B-roll of rain and distant brooding thunder, but it didn't get here until 9:30AM, and it went for about 40 minutes.
I'd only gotten two good hours of sleep when it came through, so it's not a surprise that about 25 minutes in, I fell fast asleep and started snoring!
I remember hearing that squirrel gnawing on the walnut out the window before I came-to, but in my mind, I'd only been lightly napping for five minutes... not heavily snoring for some thirty minutes!
------------{=0=}------------
The FLAC above is an edited time-lapse of that thirty minute snooze, with all the loud passing cars taken out. It was surprisingly easy to feather the clips together, because it turns out that my snore is as steady as a metronome!
It's pretty funny if you listen knowing that, and hear that the snore stays loud and steady, while the background kinda slips seemlessly through all these phases, from rain and thunder, to wind, to quiet... and that squirrel keeps going through most of it too!
This is the first time I've ever heard myself snore, and I gotta say, it sounds like a hybernating bear to me. I think the squirrel was getting into it! I think he thought I was a giant groundhog or something.
------------{=0=}------------
No radar screen caps this time around to propound my crazy skybeam theory... BUT... the above track is proof that I was not in any shape to capture such data this time around.
After the final take, I closed the window, turned on the AC, and slept until 4PM!
Luckily, the Wifi did come back for Dad, on it's own, while I was snoring away upstairs.
I ran out first thing after making coffee to get more smokes.
Now that I've processed all the audio, uploaded the Thunder Snore Dial, and written this blog... at 2:30AM... my phone is telling me we're under a new severe thunderstorm watch, and another big system is on the way!
I think I'm in for a second sleepless morning.
Better get this blog uploaded and proofread before the wifi goes down again!...
------------{=0=}------------
As an addendum, the eight good thunder claps from the 7:30AM take, were badly needed audio, and the B-roll from the 9:30 take (sans my snoring) is, as well!
I did capture one other good clap, and a little B-roll earlier in June, so I've almost got enough to edit together a good 20 minute fake storm right now.
Still gonna wait thorugh August, September, and October, to see how much else I can capture. But I'm guessing I'll have a good fake storm in the can by year's end.
