52F and sunny this morning. I was out of bed by 9:30AM and went straight down to the library to have the notary witness my signing of Colleen & Justin's quit claim.

After that I went to City Hall, a few blocks away, and got the ball rolling on the City Transfer Stamp.

I'll likely get that next Monday... whereupon I'll take it to Geneva to get recorded... then back to my Lawyer.

Today is also Columbus Day, and I'll be going to work an hour early.

GeoStaff is having staff meetings, and in order for Jeremy to attend one, I need to be in by 2PM, rather than 3PM.

But I'll bet you a million bucks that they won't let me leave the building to go to the meeting later on!

Either way, it should be a pretty nothing day at work.

I'm planning to bring my grandmother's 1940s journal, so I can give it a complete read through... which will help me in writing the current chapter of house history later tonight.

It was nice to sit out in the back yard and see the lawn mowed... with those low hanging branches back by the fence finally gone.

The yard's really made a huge transformation over the past seven months... but the south side yard by the site of Dad's old tractor shed still looks pretty sketchy.

Lots of crab grass and bare dirt, plus the remains of the topsoil pile. I'll have to take care of that in 2024. Too late in the season to do anything about it now.

Still, in back it looks great and I'm thinking that by the 20th the trees back there should be yellow, but with most of their leaves. The grass may even still be green.

Brian is out on facebook asking people to Venmo donations to him to stay in his rehersal space one more month.

He says he doesn't want to leave until after his 60th birthday, in November.

That's sad on multiple levels.

For one, it's sad to have a purely recreational hobby that's so expensive it needs to be subsidized by friends and family.

For two, it's sad that he's out there panhandling for this, at the age of 60, and not the least bit ashamed of it.

For three, it's sad that his son is in a very dangerous situation, out in Irvine, and Brian's not trying to get him home, or ask people for any money for that, which would be a worthy cause.

And for four, if Dylan were to return to DeKalb in his time of crisis, Brian would just force him to start a band together... and then force him to go earn the money to stay in the rehearsal space!

11:00PM

Nice to be home before midnight, I guess. But getting up two hours earlier than normal today kinda cancelled that out.

When I got to the building at 1:55PM, it was completely empty.

I was the only soul in the place for hours, and couldn't leave to make any of the meetings.

Darnise did appear at 6PM... after the last meeting had begun, over at Stock School.

She stayed three hours.

In my time alone there, I may or may not have hypothetically borrowed rags and other materials for the big house cleaning... which aren't necessarily, theoretically in the back of my van.

I did however, order a bucket on Amazon, a cleaning supply caddy, and some furniture polish.

Also finished reading my grandmother's journal, which goes through the entire decade of the 1940s.

Everybody got the flu all the time back then.

Thank goodness for modern flu shots!

That's pretty much it for my Monday.

Looking forward to sleeping until 11 tomorrow.

And now it's just four more days until a ten day vacation.
