Looking Ahead
Friday, September 29th, 2023 12:26 pm![]() |
69F going up to 75F today, and sunny. Startng tomorrow, we're back into the low 80sF for five days. So, yes... even October is not safe from the eighties!
I forgot that I have to sand the top and bottom of the frame for Window A, before I can put any glass in, so that'll wait until tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the glaze on Window B, overnight, started cracking... at least on the surface...

This is surely because of the drop in temperature, from 70F, yesterday, down to 50F overnight.
Not sure if I need to worry about it. The glaze has a skin over it, but is still pliable to the touch, and this may only be cosmetic, in the end.
I could retouch it, but... I'm not doing anything until this layer is fully dry.
The plan for tomorrow is to prep the sash windows and wells.
That means scraping off old paint, retouching the glaze, cleaning the glass, and painting the sash window frames.
I'm also gonna paint the ledges, and install the turnbuckles.
Oh!.. that reminds me!.. I have to spray the turnbuckles with epoxy paint right now!

Okay, this is the before shot.

This is after.
Clearly, they will be needing a second coat tonight after work.
Anyway, yes... the goal is to have the sash windows ready for the storms by the end of Saturday... even though it'll be another week or more, before the storms are actually done.
And I also plan to have Window A glazed and curing by Sunday.
But I must not forget to pay all the bills tomorrow!
I haven't mentioned it yet, but a couple days ago my FICO score did jump back UP nine points!
I'm back into the, "very good," range. And my credit useage dropped from 11% down to 9%.
It's not as good as where I was at the start of September, but it's a step in the right direction.
So I need to make sure not to be late with anything, and also to make significant dents into both PenFed, and Wells Fargo.
Gotta also make sure PenFed, Discover IT, and the newest, Credit One, are all set up for auto pay for the minimum, out of my checking account!
The hope, is that the FICO score will jump even higher, after paying, PF and WF... and also as Credit One's $1000.00 in available credit comes online.
And if so, I'll need to keep it high, long enough to arrange some kind of home equity loan later in October, to take care of BMO.
I have been with GeoStaff over a year now, and gotten a significant raise, so I should wait until that raise is reflected in the most recent paycheck... which will hopefully be in a couple weeks.
As far as work goes, the new October outlook is... a five day week next week, followed by a three day weekend, because of Columbus Day on the 9th.
It'd be nice to get the storms done over that three day weekend.
Then, the 10th ~ 13th is a four day week.
Starting on Saturday the 14th, I'll have four days to clean the house; the 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th.
There are other things I'd like to take care of in these time frames between now and the 17th... like fixing that loose brick on the fire pit, and finishing the top... and grooming the yard.
But cutting down trees is off the table until November. We'll just have to go buy firewood for the firepit when Colleen & Sheila get here.
The diamond dust is coming monday... the stuff I plan to mix in with the refractory cement to make it glittery.
Those grand plans for a firepit cap with my basalt tiles came to naught, but I do need to put a layer of the refractory cement over the top, just to keep water from getting down into cracks, where it could freeze and force the bricks apart.
It's just gonna be a rounded mound of white cement... nothing fancy. But the hope is that the diamond dust will give it some visual texture, and maybe even glitter in the firelight.
Also coming monday is parafin oil for a lantern I bought a few weeks ago, on an impulse.
The lantern could be used in the dark to get more firewood for the pit.
And I also ordered a small air compressor for my car, because in addition to the tire that went flat, the two front ones appear to have slow leaks!
I'll have to get them all looked at eventually, but having a compressor, powered by the cigarette lighter socket is a way to keep me on the road until then... and just a good thing to have for emergencies.
All of this said... I can't believe September is over tomorrow!
It started with the big push to get HD2.0 installed over the broilingly hot Labor Day weekend of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
But I was doing my first interview with D313 by the following Friday, the 8th.
Then it was straight into the storm window project on the 9th, while still fine tuning the hatch door.
And the rest of the month just rolled past, working on the storms, while talking to 313, finally culminating in my resignation... and then withdrawing that resignation because I got a better deal with GeoStaff.
Now here we are at the end, and I've got glass in one window... it's time to pay the bills again... and it's still gonna be goddam 80F tomorrow!
Around 3:05PM I got a call from Chantele, asking me if Darnise was there.
She wasn't, but she'd told Chantele she wanted to come in early today so that she could be done by 7PM.
I immediately thought, Well, it's a Friday, and it's sunny and warm outside, so Darnise is gonna pull something.
I wasn't sure what... maybe call in, in a few hours, with some excuse?
I went about my day, and at 5:13PM, I got another call from Chantele, saying Darnise was waiting by the back door to be let in.
I was on my way upstairs to get set up to vacuum so I did that, and I took my time, because screw her!.. she could wait for me today!
I would NOT have done that, if Darnise had been waiting there at 4:55PM.
Because I'm not such an asshole that I would've tried to prevent her from clocking at 5PM, which is her scheduled time.
But here she was, rolling up at 5:13.
And yesterday she said she'd be there at 6PM, and made me wait 25 minutes for her, so... I made her wait until 5:20.
But that's not the headline.
The headline is that two hours later, sometime between 7PM and 7:30 She just vanished.
I heard her vacuuming at 7PM when I went to take lunch.
But at 7:30, when I went to have a smoke in my car... her car was gone!
And Chantele called me, at 7:35, asking me if Darnise was still there.
I told her no, in fact, her car was gone.
But that's weird, because why would Chantele suspect that Darnise wasn't there... unless she'd clocked out.
But if she did... then why was Chantele calling me, and not her?
All I know is... Darnise ditched halfway through her four hour shift, without any warning or explanation.
Angelisa showed up at 11PM to finish her area.
So, Darnise almost made it a full week, this week... but couldn't get through Friday without... just BAILING!.. half way through a four hour shift!
And do not try to give me some BS like... maybe she has like three kids, and works a full time job during the day, and it's just hard to balance this part time job while juggling so much responsibility!
Because, for one thing, this ghosting pattern of hers always connects to the weekend.
Her first day was a Friday... she skipped it.
On her first full week, she ghosted on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
This week she ghosted halfway through Friday.
She also never gives any warning or explanation, which is why Chantele keeps calling me, asking what's going on... or shows up in person, shocked and disappointed.
An adult, with a lot of responsibilities... knows how to be places on time, and how to give a head's up if there's a change... and how to apologize if, for some reason, they waste 25 minutes of a coworker's day!
An adult, takes a part time job they at least think they can handle!.. and certainly makes sure not to call in at all for at least the first four weeks!
Darnise... like Rosa before her... is just a fuck up!
She had a party to be at tonight!
She wanted to come in early so she could be done by 7PM... on a gorgeous Friday night!
But she fucked around, probably talking to her friends... because she even does that at work, she's got a bluetooth earpiece so she can bullshit with her friends while working... and missed the 3:00 window.
Then She missed the 4:00 window.
Then the tried for the 5:00 window and STILL showed up 13 minutes late!
So she furiously vaccumed the shit out of everything for a couple hours and then said, fuck it!.. I am NOT missing this party! and just ditched!
Okay, well at least if you were sad that Rosa left, and thought there would be no more stories about the annoying four-hour woman... clearly we have an even worse one this year!
And it's funny, because I'm the only person who can remember her name at the moment.
It's a culture thing, I guess, but Chantele keeps refering to her as, "the new girl," because she cannot retain a name like, Darnise, in her brain.
And Jeremy, who's not Asian but white, and who hasn't met her yet, also cannot retain a name like, Darnise.
But I jotted it down a few minutes after we first met, knowing I would never retain it... and now it's etched in my soul, because she's the new ridiculous character I write about every week.
I did the same thing with, Angelisa... which is also a very unconventional name for a white person to remember.
But have I ever said anything negative about Angelisa? No!.. because I'm not racist. I'm just very irritated by fuck-ups... who come in ALL colors!
And the reason I'm so irritated by fuck-ups, is because I've been one!.. and I struggle very hard NOT to be one anymore!
Okay, enough Friday night work venting.
I have to hit those turnbuckles with another shot of epoxy paint before bed.
And I have to be up at a decent time tomorrow to get some shit done.
