Warmer Wednesday

72F and partly sunny this afternoon. Yesterday was rainy on and off all day, and I was still hearing distant thunder late at night, but today things have dried out and it's gonna hit 80F, so I need to run the central air while I'm gone.

Leaves on some trees are really starting to turn out there on the drive to work. It feels way too early for that, but maybe it's just a longer process than I realize.

The outer storm frames are out of their clamps today.

The short crossbars have been pegged and glued to the long crossbars.

And I've set the crossbars into the outer frames, and stacked them on top of each other on the table, to let the short crossbar connections dry.

Clamping the two long crossbars together for three rainy days did get much of the bow out of the one for Window A.

I'm thinking now it won't be that difficult to join the crosses to their outer frames.

If I sharpen the dowel rods, it should be easy enough to bend the crossbars slightly to meet up with where they're coming in from the outside.

And then once they're in and the glue is dry, I cut off anything that's protruding, with a hacksaw.

Both these frames will then have to be puttied and sanded a bit, on the front, to hide the seams.

I'm Still debating in my mind whether to go with a single large pane of glass, or four smaller panes, per window.

Still no word from 313 today.

I was really hoping to get the week of OCT 9~13 free to prepare for the reunion.

But with 313 dragging their feet this week, that now seems out of the question.

Even if they got the ball rolling on monday with the background checks, fingerprints, and all that jazz... it'll probably take UNTIL October 9th for me to be confident that I could leave GeoStaff.

That would force me to cold quit, if I still wanted that week off, and I'd rather not do that.

But in reality, 313 probably won't get rolling with me on Monday.

So I'm just gonna have to do my best to prepare for the Reunion, while working five days a week, up to and including, Monday October 16th.

In addition to getting the storms finished and installed, I have to clean up both the house and the yard quite a bit!

Bushes and trees need to be pruned, and all those branches need to be chipped.

The whole house needs to be vacuumed, and mopped, and wiped down, and dusted.

Rugs have to be washed.

I have to decorate for Halloween.

I need to buy something to wear to the funeral.

And that damn flat tire's still sitting in the back of my van!

All very overwheming to think about.

I'm gonna have to be more disciplined from here on out, about getting to bed on time, and using the time I have before work every day.

12:07AM

Well, the big news tonight at work was that Darnise never showed!

When I first got in, Chantele was there for something, but on her way out told me that Darnise would be coming at 6PM tonight.

Angelisa was also going to come in and train her a bit more.

So I went about my evening, but 6PM came and went with nobody showing up. Then 7PM came and went, and while I was in the break room eating my lunch, Chantele appeared!

She said Darnise had called-in! And she was visibly disappointed. Now she and Angelisa had to knock out the four hour area.

So... Wow!

Darnise's first day was supposed to be last Friday, and she ducked out of that, but... ya know... it was a Friday. I could kinda understand that.

But when you start brand new on a Monday... come on, now! You GOTTA do the whole first week!

And she didn't just call in, here on Wednesday... she pulled a ROSA, and first said she'd be late... THEN called in at the last second!

Frankly, it's astonishing!.. because, why the hell would you go to all the trouble of the interview, and the onboarding process... with the fingerprints, and the drug test & background checks... then the ID photo... the uniform shirts...

And then NOT give it a full WEEK?

It's just a four hour job, for crying out loud! ANYBODY can fake their way through a four hour job for a week!

Some people, you guys!

I mean, you got Brian last Friday coming out with an unsolicited ANNOUNCEMENT, that he's giving up his practice place to get a new car.

And then when he gets nothing but praise and support for the decision... backs the fuck out of it, two days later...

complaining that he never wanted a new car and we're all just bullying him to do something he doesn't need to do!

And you've got your Rosas and your Darnises who go to all the trouble to get easy, part time jobs, that they just CAN'T bring themselves to do!

How do people like this survive?

Okay, but then you've got Tim, on the other side, working seven days a week for months, out in the heat of the Las Vegas summer, cleaning pools... to get himself a house... and the DID IT!

This is why I still have faith in humanity.

Some people try!

Other people, think it's normal and acceptable to constantly let everybody down!

To think, I was deliberately planning to call in on Monday... because I thought... everybody's doing it... I never do it... I want an extra day off dammit!

I already had another job offer on the table!

But I STILL went in, because Chantele managed to get into my head a little bit on Friday night.

And not only did I not create any drama on Monday... but today I worked extra hard because Jeremy said we're having an inspection tomorrow!

Like... why should I care? I have another job offer!

But I did care!

And thanks to both Jermemy last week, and Darnise this week... I look like a goddam SAINT right now!

Just for NOT being a dildo!

Okay, in other news, I bought the halloween decorations today...

  • Six glow in the dark, 2D, corrugated plastic jack-o-lanterns with ground stakes for in the back yard.

  • One glow in the dark, 2D, six foot tall, skeleton (poseable) for the side of the shed in the back yard.

  • Two different kinds of window cling decorations... enough for every damn window in the house.

  • Four, 3D, light up (battery powered), plastic jack-o-lanterns... 5 inches tall by 5 inches wide.

  • One, 3D, light up (plug-in), plastic jack-o-lantern.. 8 inches tall by 9 inches wide.

  • Two, 200 light, plug-in net lights, orange.

  • 1000 square feet of super stretch spider webbing.

  • 124 peice, assorted, cardboard bats, with glow in the dark eyes.

  • One, giant spider, fuzzy, six foot leg span, left to right, with scary red eyes.

And after taxes and shipping, the total came to...

Goddam $200.00!

And I just gave tim $100.00 yesterday so... this is why I'm not cold quitting GeoStaff!

But I do really want to do the place up with Halloween decorations for the funeral/reunion, because it was Dad's favorite holiday.

I mean, if you asked him, he'd say it was Easter or Christmas, because he was Catholic, so it'd be wrong to say otherwise.

But he always said October was his favorite month... and he always DID love those halloween decorations, and those trick or treaters!

I want people to remember, when they think back on Dad's funeral... the fact that halloween was a huge part of it.

Because I'm sure there will be Halloween decorations at the Round House too... and just out on the streets, and everywhere you go, by that week.

Okay, that's my Wednesday.

Gotta try to get to bed early.
