Cool Rainy Monday
Monday, September 11th, 2023 11:37 am![]() |
64F out there this morning, and as far as I know, it's been raining since late last night. My app says it's gonna keep raining for another four hours... just a slow, steady drizzle. And the high today is only gonna be 66F!
I love it!
All hail the king of clubs, because it's gonna stay in the 60s or low 70s all week!
I didn't want to get up this morning, but now that I'm up, I'm in a good mood because of how well things finished up this weekend with the hatch door!
After I threw it on there, over the Labor Day weekend, I spent last week feeling bad about it, because the rigging looked uneven, and it was so difficult to close.
But now it's all straightened out, and that silicone spray really saved the day! That thing opens and closes like a dream now!
So on a rainy day like today, I can feel good that it's not only holding out the rain, but it was just a good install... and hopefully will last for years to come.
Also... how long have I been worried about that thing? At least since the start of June!
It's just good to have it done!
Not sure if I'll get much done on the storm windows over the week.
The next step is to drill all the holes, using the doweling jig... which I've never used before.
So, either I feel motivated enough, one of these mornings or evenings to get started on that during the work week, or it'll wait until the weekend.
The outside of the sash windows also need work. They have to be cleaned up, and repainted. And there's also window glaze missing around the panes that has to be replaced.
This is the final week of year one with GeoStaff.
Friday is the 15th.
Friday is also one full month back to full time.
So next week is when I'm clear to apply for that home equity line with Discover.
However, my score did drop last week.
So maybe I should try to get it back up first.
Is there time?
Still haven't heard back from the lawyer, who was supposed to draw up a thing for me to sign, giving him official permission to talk to BMO.
Oh my god! I just got a voice mail from Jessie offering me the night shift position at Odlaw!
He wants me to call back and confirm, before he sends the paperwork over to HR!
Now I have to decide if I really want to do this!
Hrmmmm... a doller more, a four block commute, paid lunch... I should probably do it, right?
It's gonna take a while for that background check to clear anyway, right?
This won't actually happen until we're into October.
Okay, I called him back and accepted!
He said the pay will be $16.18 per hour. So... a buck 68 more per hour.
He's sending the paperwork to HR now, and they'll get back to me this week or next.
I'll have to let them know about the funeral/reunion dates.
The background check will probably take a while too.
So... looks like October before this actually happens.
That's fine.
Wow!.. can't beleive I'm actually gonna be working at Odlaw!
Wow!.. okay, this is telling me I need to wait until October to try for the home loan.
I should apply for a credit card or two now... to up that available credit, and then pay down both Wells Fargo, and PenFed before the 1st.
That ought to bring me back up above 750 for the FICO score.
Then I apply for the loan and tell them, not only did I work a full year for GeoStaff (and lie and say it was full time the whole time) but now I'm in a new job that pays more.
If everything goes well [knocks wood] the mortgage problems could be solved by November, and I'll be getting home every night, an hour and 15 minutes earlier... while still leaving at the same time.
Hopefully, I'll also have some kind of a cusion to get me through 2024, as well.
Then I just hunker down for the winter, with my storm windows up...
And record in the studio, finally?
We'll see!
I was just reading the instructions for the doweling jig and it occured to me... why don't I just use wood pegs for the entire construction?
That thing's not really designed to drill screw holes.
But... I mean, wood pegs and wood glue would probably work just fine for these frames!
I guess I'd still need screws to hold in the cross bars, at their ends.
But yeah... the outer frames could just be glued!
They say wood peg connections are pretty damn strong.
The day got a little crazier when my lawyer called, as I was driving.
He had a guy look into it, and the laws have changed, so that an acceptance affadavit is no longer necessary in Illinois, meaning only the Transfer On Death itself is needed.
So, Colleen is co-owner of the house right now.
He's sending her a quit-claim document that she and Justin both have to sign and then send back to us.
But he still hasn't gotten around to those papers that will give him legal permission to speak on my behalf to BMO.
So... I really kinda do have to wait until October to do anything.
Oh, that reminds me, I wanted to apply for a credit card later tonight.
It rained all day until about 6PM. So I think we may have gotten 14 hours of almost continuous drizzles and rain.
Work was a little chaotic, becaues Jeremy called in, so there was a fill-in for him on first shift, and then a pair of fill-ins for the 4-hour area, I had to show around.
Chantele showed up and, again, talked about how exhausted she is right now, because they're down so many people.
The pair who came to fill in had already worked 8 hours, and were gonna go to another school after Cloud!
And little did they know, I just accepted another job.
But it's hard to feel sorry for them. They're all in the same union... that isn't using the upcoming negotiation period to adjust our wages for the massive greed-flation that's happened, these past three years.
$13.50 is gonna remain the starting wage, and I'm sorry, but that's just a joke in 2023.
You can't expect to keep anybody at wage like that.
And I'm gonna let Jeremy know, before I go, that D313 offered me $1.68 more to start, because he lives in Aurora like me.
I'm sure he wouldn't mind a faster commute and paid lunch.
And maybe, when Cloud is back in total disarray, and GeoStaff realizes that D313 basically stole both the guys they had holding it down... for a couple extra bucks... they'll finally open their eyes!
In other news, I got to thinking about the storms, and I think I actually CAN do the entire thing with wood pegs...

I'd first get the four corners together with shorter pegs.
And then I'd put the cross in place and tap in longer pegs with a rubber mallet, on all four sides.
And if there's any sticking out, I just saw it off and hit it with the sander.
All I have to do is be dead accurate with the holes... but that's what the jig is for.
I ordered some angle clamps on Amazon... which are designed to hold corners together while glue dries.
And then, to take care of the bow in the boards, I can take the piece of OSB I cut off the end of the table... put it on top of a frame... put some weights on it... and leave it sit for a few days.
Oh my god! I applied for a, "Discover It," card, that Experian had been bugging me to get for months, and it went right through, and I was approved... and the credit line is $3000.00!
That's EXACTLY how much availabe credit vanished when Care Credit ghosted me!
So, that should put my credit useage back down to 6% where it was.
I can't do much about the late payment to PenFed, but I do think if I pay off both PenFed, and Wells Fargo by the start of October, that should bump me up.
If I'm lucky [knocks wood] the FICO score might be back to 760 by October 1st.
Okay, that's my cool rainy monday!
The ball is still rolling with the lawyer and the job at Odlaw.
The hatch door just shielded the basement from 14 hours of rain, like a champ.
I'm working up a plan to get the storms together with wood pegs.
And I just got back the $3000.00 in available credit that was lost last week.
Can't beat a Monday like that!
