It was a glorious 67F when me and the pets were out back at noon, and it's only going up to 71F today! No air conditioners running. No central air or furnace. Just the perfect temperature all day!

I slept in until 11:40 today because I've been fighting some kind of sinus infection that I must've picked up on Monday, playing with that gross wet gravel from inside the counterweight.

Last night it seemed like it was trying to turn into an ear infection, but today I feel like I'm almost back to normal.

I called Jessie a few minutes ago, and we have an appointment to talk in person tomorrow at 11:30AM in a building over on Seminary Avenue, which is like five blocks from here!

We didn't talk long on the phone, but I did pick up some key peices of information.

First of all, yes!.. he said that in their contract, they get paid for a 30 minute lunch as long as they don't leave the building.

So the job really is 2:30 to 10:30!

Secondly, he said he's got a total of 41 positions available right now, in the high school, and also in different elementary and middle schools within the district.

And that means they're hurting for new employees... which is good if I want the job.

But why are they hurting?.. is it because they pay just as lousy of wages as Geostaff?

So... D313 starts with the advantages of; being a lot closer to home, and having a shorter work day... both of which combine to mean less time away from home.

So the big question is, can they beat, crappy $14.50 per hour?

Air conditioning and freedom to smoke are two lesser issues... that are kind of intertwined.

On 2nd Shift, it should be easy enough to sneak out for a smoke, but it will be easier in a smaller building, because there will be less other staff around.

However, a smaller building is less likely to have air conditioning.

If forced to choose, I guess I would pick smoking over staying cool.

But maybe there's a happy middle ground... literally... in a middle school?

It occurs to me that DK Odlaw Middle School is literally on my street, four blocks away!

Even in the winter, I could walk there!

12:13AM

I spent the whole evening picturing working at Odlaw... so, now it's almost a guarantee that Jessie's gonna tell me they don't have an opening there.

I could go on about why it's ideal, but... it's probably better to just wait until tomorrow and find out where he actually needs people... and what the pay is, and so forth.

But all day I've felt so certain we can work something out, that I've also been planning my exit from GeoStaff.

If tomorrow's chat with Jessie goes anything like my original chat on the phone with Kristina from GeoStaff last year... I could be given, and accept, an offer tomorrow.

If so, I would tell him I can start on Monday, September 25th... then I would turn around and tell GeoStaff my last day will be Friday, September 15th... my exact 1-year anniversary... and then I'd take a week off!

Then I could use that free week to talk to my lawyer, and Discover, or some other bank, and get the ball rolling for a home loan to take care of BMO.

I'd still technically get paid for that week, or most of it, because GeoStaff would be paying me all the PTO I've accrued over a year, in that final paycheck.

Then I'd start with D313, and begin a better life, with a little more free time every day, and my finances in better shape than ever!

The only sticking point is that they'd have to let me take four days off in October for Dad's memorial/reunion.

And I'd be fine with taking them unpaid... because I understand that I'll not have accrued any time off at all yet.

So, if they agree to that, then the only real sticking point is that I will have to start from zero again, and do a week of training... and do three months of probationary period... and accrue time off slowly... etc, etc.

But we'll see what's what tomorrow.

I need to get up early, so... that's it for tonight.
