snoozefestaudioSo, mental note... Amtrack doesn't seem to start their weekly train inspections until midnight, as Wednesday becomes Thursday.
Makes sense. It's a 1st shift job. The engineers clock in at 11:30PM, Wednesday night, and start up all the engines at midnight. The inspections take hours... cuz they're looking at the passenger cars too. I know from experience, they always test the horns, at some point.
But I also recall from experience the testing takes two nights.
So... not good to record after midnight on a Wednesday night.
But what about a Thursday night? Same deal? We'll find out tomorrow.

Paper plate sails didn't do much tonight, in nearly dead air conditions.
I heard, about four, isolated dings... in the middle of twenty minute spans of silence.
The chimes did come to life and start jingling madly, with the rare, odd breeze, for a second or two here and there.
So, even bigger sails may be in order, for the dead of summer.

I started thinking about huge sails made from poster board... but then I also thought... how would giant party balloons work?
I ordered six jumbo party balloons on Amazon... that can be inflated to a diameter of 36 inches.
The concept is that, once the air is so still that it can't move a paper plate... it might be time to start thinking three-dimensionally.
Paper plates, and coffee lids turn and spin in the wind, as they're blown.
But when air movement is extremely low, a huge poster board might just pivot, but not move the clapper enough to touch a key on the chime.
A 36" baloon, however... would drift!
Gotta wait until Monday for the balloons to get here.

The test recording tonight (10:30 PM Wednesday into 12AM Thursday morning) did have some good passages that can be turned into DIALS, however.
I'd like to get my car back from the shop, to go out into the world at large in search of DIALS, but I could mine a few from tonight's test.
